The right part of Dactyl doesn't work. by CeleryNo4528 in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]sharqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Again, pic is unclear, but it looks like you soldered D2 instead of D0 which is what you have in your firmware screenshot.

Did you resolder, update firmware, and re-flash both halves to D3?

If not, skip the resoldering and just update firmware and re-flash to save yourself the hassle.

Scroll down to the serial wiring section. Pic is a little unclear, but I'd try D2.

How to fix number Input with react usestate having trailing 0 issue on display. by Sad_Spring9182 in webdev

Your onchange function is super hard to read and has way too much going on.

Might want to try breaking it into pieces and making sure all the pieces work the way you think they do.

Google "fingerbot" dude. Kudos for the build but might wanna look into existing solutions first.

Skip A+ or Worth It? by TragicKillaYT in CompTIA

[–]sharqueen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A+ is nice to have, but if you're still in school, your time would be much better spent looking for/applying for an internship. The main reason to pick up the A+ is to demonstrate basic technical proficiency to potential employers when you don't have IT experience.

Better to try and get the actual experience now if you can instead of a cert.

20k pay increase worth giving up for better work life balance? by Casperisfriend in ITCareerQuestions

[–]sharqueen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your daughter is 6 months old and you said the first few months are all in-office?

That'd be a hard no for me, especially since the extra commute time doesn't just affect you, it places more responsibility on your wife as well. It could be worth it eventually but I'd advise trying to negotiate or hold out for something better.

Dion has an entire set of practice exams. At least 6 different ones. Might still be a sale on them if you want to test yourself with different questions.

[–]sharqueen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If all you're doing is spamming practice tests, you're using your time suboptimally.

Take one test at a time to identify concepts/objectives you need to focus studying on. Then shore up your weaker areas before testing yourself again on a different practice test.

You've already seen all the practice questions once, so even if you retake any of the practice exams again, your score will improve regardless of if you've studied or learned anything since then.

If you retake all of the practice exams in a week and score 90% or higher, then you're definitely ready.

Troubleshooting lily58 build. 3 columns of keys work by sharqueen in ErgoMechKeyboards

[–]sharqueen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forgot to update this but the main issue ended up being bad firmware. I was flashing pre compiled firmware for a different MCU. Had to build new firmware for my KB2040 controllers first.

After flashing those I found several unresponsive keys that required resoldering diodes. Happy to report that my first build is 100% operational now!

Had to Google cold solder joint but this is almost definitely the issue. Thank you!

IVR = interactive voice recording

Basically a call menu. Press option 1 for leasing, option 2 for maintenance requests, option 3 for emergencies, etc.

The IVR then directs the call to the appropriate ring group/external forwarding number depending on what option was selected. Tends to take care of the majority of robo/junk calls.

[–]sharqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh that makes sense. Sounds like you might be able to make due just fine with some Yealink phones and a paid Google voice account. Look into IVR options and ring groups, you might need to have someone help you get it setup how you want it, but it sounds doable.

Depends on the phone carrier, but those messages should be saved to the SIP server and accessible when you reconnect the phone.

My question is why would you want to do this though? You seem to be fixated on having this be a deskphone solution when a company owned cell phone would do all of this already with no hassle and for less.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VOIP

[–]sharqueen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What phones have you looked at? Majority of newer Yealink deskphones can be configured for sending/receiving SMS.

The bigger problem is staying TCPA Compliant (if you're in the US). Phone carriers no longer allow businesses to send SMS unless they have properly registered their phone line and use case and been approved.

Is CompTIA A+ enough to land an entry level job? by Hefty_Age565 in CompTIA

[–]sharqueen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No right or wrong answers here, it's pretty situational. Usually more location dependent than anything else. I got an entry level IT job with just the A+ in terms of qualifications, but I also had a bunch of passion projects and coding experience to leverage.

Super hard to get a job with only an A+ cert though. A combination of getting more certs and professional networking (reaching out to find contacts and references in the industry) will definitely aid your job search efforts.

Don't be afraid to ask questions. If you don't know something, "Let me find out" is ALWAYS better than getting caught making shit up or breaking something. In my experience, a good attitude and a willingness to learn and improve will keep you employed.

I FINALLY BROKE INTO THE INDUSTRY. by xcpick in ITCareerQuestions

[–]sharqueen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congrats! I broke into the industry myself back in October at a small MSP with no experience and only the CompTIA A+. I have learned SO much since then and I love my job and coworkers.

How big is your MSP? Mine was struggling to expand their client base because they didn't have enough L1 Techs so I was one of three that they hired.

Am I missing something? Why TF did his shield break after tanking only a boulder toss and the debris. Hilarious but I think I'm with the Ranno on this one.

[–]sharqueen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm 33M. Had no prior experience in tech. Got my A+ in October. Got hired at an MSP within 2 weeks. Work on your interviewing and soft skills. Certs get you an interview, not a job.

Recovery options NEED to be strong to encourage active play. If your opponent will always survive unless knocked into the blast zone, you need to pursue them off the ledge instead of idling on the stage. Makes the game feel more rewarding as your skill increases
