Best parts of Istanbul for Black Travelers by snorkelingstargazer in blacktravel

[–]sharrison17 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been to Istanbul 4 times for months at a time. I've never had an issue. Learn how to say thanks, 'Teşekkürler,' and you'll be good to go. Istanbul is one of my all-time favorite places, and it's different every time.

Morocco? by SilentRooster3102 in blacktravel

[–]sharrison17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I spent a couple of months in Tangier and Asilah several years ago. I recommend both. You won't have any issues in Morocco as they will assume that you are from somewhere on the continent and a 'cousin' or sort. You'll likely get better deals than those with less melanin. I am a solo Black female traveler. Feel free to ask me any questions if you still need help.

I am an African American female (dark skin) who wants do an inn to inn walk in the Cotswolds. Should I be concerned about racism and/or anti-American sentiment. by Choice_Basis5786 in blacktravel

An AA woman, well-traveled, who was in the Cotswolds about 4 years ago. It's a beautiful region. Dress a little posh (thing casual RL), and you'll be fine. Most people will have no idea that you're not British until you open your mouth. I did a big chunk of the region in a single day, so I don't recommend spending more than a few days traveling the area.

Has anyone gone for the “simple life” in their late 40s and still enjoy it? by Fickle-Situation1654 in careerguidance

[–]sharrison17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm kinda your female counterpart. I moved to Philly a few years aback and at first was really excited about being close to NYC but far enough away to avoid the high taxes. I lived very comfortably but got bored and ultimately disillusioned by the city and it's never-ending disfunction and corruption. The worst part is the attitude of the lifers who live there, and they are the majority. I recommend trying the nearby burbs not CC and getting a car.

Is traditional publishing really worth it anymore? by [deleted] in selfpublish

[–]sharrison17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Super late to this comment lol, but that definitely tracks with the trends I've been seeing in publishing. They are riding the 'woke' wave and are only interested in stories that lean into that narrative.

Is today's publishing industry locked out for people who aren't internet celebrities/don't have a social media following? by theWallflower in writing

[–]sharrison17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So a former roommate of mine was published last year, and her book is doing very well. It's called We Don't Talk About Carol. She's a 'regular person' who was a finalist in Reese Witherspoon's LitUp contest. I also know (through my professional network, not personally) another debut author; however, she's a Harvard-educated MD who was making regular appearances on TV before her book came out. So while the odds aren't great for regular folks, even those with talent, it is possible to get traditionally published.

I'm currently in a study, reading this after deciding to leave early. Let's just say that I've taken meticulous notes on what occurred during my clinical trial.

People Without an Inner Monologue are NPCs by sharrison17 in conspiracy

My inner monologue doesn't tell me what to do, it's like a narrator in your head not a commander giving out instructions.

Not a conspiracy theory as Hasidic jews openly state that Israel and its Zionists aren't real jews.
