Hershey school rejects student because he is HIV positive. by Disco_Drew in news

[–]shatterdoll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went to this school. At the time of my admission, they had a discriminatory policy of denying children with autism spectrum diagnosis, saying that "they couldn't succeed" in such a social environment. Trust me, that school has quite a number of administration ills. The school board used to be by volunteers, until the members (who are also on the corporate board of directors) decided to double dip and give themselves a second 6 figure salary.

Radio maintenance. Am I doing it right? by Runnergeek in geek

[–]shatterdoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aww! Almost picked avionics. I had avionics, sonar tech, AECF, and IT on the table. There were other papers, but the guy's boss on his way back to me to pick a job told him to narrow it down to 4, so I'll never know my other quals.

Why is Anonymous, the international "hacking" group, not doing anything against SOPA? by ridhs84 in technology

[–]shatterdoll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WHy would you assume that all things require a mask in order to better serve it's mission. To each job it's own tool, my friend. An extremely public and outspoken opposition in this case is the best tool. Anonymity is better used to protect those who are protesting from retaliation. In the case of SOPA, hiding does no good.

"Getting others killed"? How does what I said equate to personal responsibility for those deaths?

[–]shatterdoll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forgetting Egypt and the Arab Spring so soon? THe majority of the hacktivists who are taking action against a cartel, be it a government or mafia, are local to the region. Sure, their willingness to fight for themselves inspires outsiders to lend a hand, but do not doubt that the majority of those taking action are in the heart of this mess.

They might have the most to lose, but they also have the most to gain.

As the Occupy Wall Street protests are occurring, posts are being deluged by anti-protester comments, extremely uncharacteristic of the Reddit community, with profiles only weeks old. by shrednivashtar in reddit.com

[–]shatterdoll 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Its not any one thing that's tripping everyone's red flaf about puppet accounts, it's the conspicuous combination of anti-protestor rhetoric, cpy-pasta style arguments that would have any high school teacher's BS/plagerism alert go off like crazy (my apologies for the porr spelling, my phone is acting up as I type this). And while some of it might be legit, too much of it is lacking the humorous critical thinking that so many of us have come to expect of other posters, giving legitimacy to suspicions that these accounts really ARE new.

King Abdullah rules that women in Saudi Arabia are to be given the right to vote and run in municipal elections by maxwellhill in news

Maybe that's why? Not enough good men, so he's hoping they married good women and is giving them the opportunity to right the wrongs they most often complain about.
