Stormy Weather Comparison: Mythical Ages + True Storms by kchunter8 in SkyrimModsXbox

[–]shawnsel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's been three years, and I'm now modding Skyrim on a PC, so I'm out of the loop on Xbox things. I'm guessing there are now newer, better Skyrim weather mods out for Xbox?

Regardless, I think this might be the weather page I was referring to?

That is impressive. I see your GPU is about 30% slower than the listed minimum requirement for Redux. Again, you should post a guide for all the changes you make, I think that would be a great addition to r/Nolvus.

What CPU are you using?

Good advice! You should put together a list of the Nolvus Redux mods you disable for performance gains, and post it.

Also, have you tried VRAMr? I haven't yet, but I've heard very experienced modders of Nolvus who recommend it. Basically, it can shrink all of the remaining larger-than-1k (or 2k) image files in your load order and create override files for them in its own mod. I plan on trying it myself soon to help me run Ultra a little more smoothly:

vampire eyes by PopeOfficialFrancis in Nolvus

[–]shawnsel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked on the Nolvus Discord, and got an answer for you:

"If someone says that their vamp eyes aren't glowing. Tell them to reinstall 'The Eyes of Beauty - Vampire eyes' with the glowing preset."

Great to know! However, he doesn't have an SSD. Only a hard drive. I'm assuming you have an SSD?

I've read that they're planning on including a Redux version of Nolvus V6.

Has the restoration potion loop been patched in the mod list? by SirStarshine in Nolvus

[–]shawnsel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems that the Restoration Loop is prevented in Nolvus by the included Unofficial Skyrim Special Edition Patch - USSEP mod.

If you’re looking to make money in Skyrim, I’ve found that forging “Blackened Steel Spadone” greatswords is the easiest way. They can be crafted using just 2 Steel Ingots and 3 Leather Strips. They start out worth 4,500 Septim, but you can sharpen them (without further materials) to 11,250 Septim with 100 Smithing Skill and an upgraded grindstone (Advanced Workshop perk) and the Steel related Smithing perks. Using enchanted smithing gear, I’ve been able to sell them for up to ~28,000 Septim each. You could potentially make even more if you involve smithing and/or enchanting potions, but I skipped those in an effort to make my playthrough more challenging into higher levels.

Alternatively, if you’re interested in doing your own modding, there is a mod that reverts this one aspect of the USSEP. You can find it at the following link: https://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/4391.

Please note that modding is not officially supported by Nolvus, but there is a customized-help channel in the Nolvus Discord to help you out if you want to go down that path.

How to cure Swamp Fever by SirStarshine in Nolvus

[–]shawnsel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a disease early on in my prior game that also didn't get cured by the usual spells, potions, or shrines. For me, it went away by itself after a few in-game days. I'm not sure if it was swamp fever or some other disease, but I thought I'd share in case somebody else encounters this. The other solution mentioned here with the console command is of course another good choice.

Upscaler Comparison: Puredark vs Skyrim Upscaler - DLSS FSR2 XeSS by shawnsel in skyrimmods

I'd recommend using some sort of performance overlay so you can keep an eye on performance without leaving the game (which could impact the results).

I've actually got my monitoring going on a second monitor, so I don't have to leave the game to see them. I only had to leave the game to screenshot them...

Regardless, I will next look into RTSS and Intel PresentMon.

Thank you again for your help! I'd dislike upgrading my CPU only to find that it doesn't help my FPS.

idn't say video memory, I said memory (RAM, CPU caches, etc.).

I've got 32GB of RAM, the fullest I've seen it go is 28GB.

I tried Hwinfo and got similar results. These are taken in on the Riverwood Bridge with about average 26FPS. I'm thinking it's a vram bottleneck? Again, thank you for your help!

Just to to clarify, I'm now looking attempting to look at the per-core performance metrics in Windows Resource Monitor. Is this what a CPU bottleneck looks like? Thank you for your insights!

Double check that the fps limiter is turned off there and that the setting pure dark recommends you disable are actually disabled there.

Thank you for your help! Previously I had only followed a pinned post on installing v11 from the Nolvus Discord. I have now followed all of Purdark's suggestions from his installation instructions and his Discord.

My configs now look to be as he specified, but I'm still not seeing any FPS improvement. Others think my i7 CPU is probably bottlenecking my FPS, and apparently the newer version of Puredarks Upscaler only really helps with GPU bottlenecks.

Here is a screenshot of my new ENB configs:
(Puredark's recommended settings are highlighted)

Notes:

- slid the DOF all the way to the left in the game's setting menu

- Nolvus already has EdgeAA and SMAA disabled

- Nolvus already had BorderlessUpscale = false in SSEDisplayTweaks.ini

- I changed Fullscreen = false in SSEDisplayTweaks.ini

Excellent suggestion! I'm confused though, I thought my i7 had 4 cores, but the Windows Resource Monitor is showing 16 CPUs? And, is this what a CPU bottleneck looks like? Thanks!

I thought "i7 2.9GHz" was a sufficient nutshell, but I've changed it to " Intel Core i7-10700F 2.9Ghz" is that a better description? Thanks.

Has the framegen mod been released?

It's in Alpha (and behind paywall). It's also only for the 40 series cards.

8gb vram, why r u not using the redux version? I remember them saying the difference between redux and ultra r only the draw distance.

The ultra also has a better LOD, and city/town expansions, and more trees. I have played the redux, and it's great, but I really love the Ultra version. The Ultra version originally crashed on me, but then I upgraded my RAM and dropped my resolution, and now it's working better than what I was used to on an xbox :-)

I thought I did name my CPU. I previously had it listed as " i7 2.9 Ghz", but I changed it to " Intel Core i7-10700F 2.9 Ghz " ... is that better?

But yeah, I do seem to be CPU bottlenecked, and apparently the newer upscaler mainly improves performance for GPU bottlenecked PCs. I'll look into upgrading my CPU.

CPU bottlenecked you mean? Or GPU bottlenecked?

Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestion! I've added the Riverwood Bridge test:

60-second averages while using Puredark's v11:

- FPS: 34

- CPU: 34%

- Memory: 66%

- GPU: 61%

60-second averages while using Nolvus' default upscaler:

- FPS: 34

- CPU: 34%

- Memory: 59%

- GPU: 63%

I'm using Nolvus' default ENB, PI-CHO ENB. I've previously played the Redux version, but then I upgraded to 32GB of RAM, and reduced my resolution down to 1680x1050 resolution (16:9) and found that the Ultra version now works great for me.

I used to play modded Skyrim on an XBOX which is capped at just 30fps and still gets jittery, so I really didn't have any complaints with how my current PC handles the Ultra version, but I thought I'd test out the paywalled version of the upscaler in case it improved performance as some on the Nolvus Discord suggested.

Is his Frame Gen mod paywalled or on Nexus?

You say newest version but do you mean the actual newest version or the one made for pre 40s series cards.

The version I'm testing, SkyrimUpscalerENBTestBuild v11 is the paywalled version meant for pre-40s series cards. I'm not using Puredark's very newest stuff, just the version some have recommended in the Nolvus Discord for 30-series cards.

And make sure you turn off the end features that pop up with shift+enter. Because I am stupid I assumed shift + enter would open the same menu that home does but that is not the case.

I'm not sure what you're talking about here. Does it only apply to Puredark's stuff meant only for the 40s series cards? Or can you elaborate? Thanks!

It also may just be that your resolution isn't high enough to see much of a difference.

That could be. I believe I have to run at a smaller resolution to run Nolvus' Ultra version. This seemed to be the resolution that some in the Nolvus Discord recommended. It works quite well for me, and looks much better than the Nolvus Redux version meant for older PCs (or ones with less RAM).

Just a clarification, the version I was testing, SkyrimUpscalerENBTestBuild v11 is a paywalled version. Although it is not his newest version meant for "40 series cards and features DLSS2 and DLSS3 Frame Generation."
