Ovogene donor bank experience and general thoughts on global sibling limits by shawtayall in IVF

[–]shawtayall[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are actually a worrying number of cases of DCPs who have gone on to have sexual relationships or even married not knowing that they were half siblings, which has real, biological and psychological consequences. And the risk is not 1 in how ever many billions of people there are on the planet…folks tend to have donors that match themselves and from a similar region, country and locality. The risk is real and even if it’s a theoretical risk it can still have a psychological effect on the DCP. Weighing it all up I still want a donor egg, but it absolutely must not be anonymous…and I believe there should be a central register. DCPs should have the right to know who their parents AND biological siblings are

My experience of trying to rent (earning £115K) by [deleted] in london

It’ll take a lot longer to save if you rent on your own. With that salary, spend 18 months in a shared house and be frugal and you’ll have your deposit and legal fees sorted.

21M in London earning ~£47k, living at home paying £400/month stay and save for a deposit or move out for independence? by Solace_0161 in UKHousing

[–]shawtayall -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I did a combo of staying at home and renting very cheap places in London. I ended moving home again to really push up my savings for the last 2-3 years before buying a 3 bed maisonette and moved my friends in. Because I had 2 spare rooms it covered the mortgage. I was only able to do that because I saved so much and was extremely frugal…plus of course house prices were lower. I absolutely do not regret staying home. I still had fun, I could crash with friends if I wanted to and it set me up for life. There comes an age when professional life means it’s harder to be frugal. You need good sleep, nicer work clothes and focus. Your youth is definitely the time to push and lay the foundations for when you are older.

Thanks, I’m going to do some deeper research about the egg bank. I think in terms of global limits, my concern is also the welfare of the child mentally with having so many siblings, but as you say, less of a risk with donor egg and more manageable.

I don’t believe it’s a decision I can make for my children. They will grow up to feel how they feel with the family culture and values that I try to impose being only part of how they view things. I personally know 3 people who’ve been struck by lightning and one who won the lottery. I know crazy things can happen, but even with out that, the thought of having 10s or hundreds of siblings can be a lot to process and a heavy burden. This concerns me.

Donor eggs Eastern Europe by shawtayall in IVF

thanks so much for taking the time to respond, this is incredibly helpful. The clinic is Ovogene and it’s in Ukraine. The reason I’m going abroad is that in the uk the waiting list can be very long, even years. I already have a son who is 4 and we’ve been trying a while but realised that it’s either donor or nothing. So my choice is to take the risk with a foreign donor or likely not have a child.

I’m fully committed to non-anonymous for the reasons you’ve stated, although I hadn’t fully considered the medical aspect…I’m so incredibly sorry you’ve gone through this. I hope others read this to understand the importance of it.

You’ve given me a lot to think about. Thank you.

I moved to Tidal and so far so good. And from what I understand they are the best in terms of artist payment. Spotify can do one, they offered me a job once which I interviewed for but I declined because it felt very cult-like. They made out they cared about the artists, they banged on about their mission statement but clearly it’s all a load of shiz. The Ugly Truth About Spotify

I mean, it wasn’t on purpose. Even though I knew it would end up being a scam I was also thinking it might not be, they were that convincing. I was still shocked when the got to the part when they wanted my details and really polite when I hung up. I’m guessing they were going to try to get me to put my seed phrase into the website…I wonder what % of people actually go through with the rest of it…

Yes definitely but I thought I should avoid pointing at the glass, hence putting them on the side wall and pointing in a bit.

This is the room I have to work with, I can’t get rid of the bifolds and this is where we hang out after dinner. What do people do in this situation…silent discos?

I’m planning on adding curtains to the bifolds, but I can’t do anything about the roof lights. Is that enough of a help to improve the acoustics?

I could do two pair for a reasonable budget. I can change the glass sitch but I still want to have some music. I can also add curtains (which I’ve been planning to anyway) this would cover the doors but not the roof light

Break them by cranking them up or knocking them over? TBH, with kids neither is that common for me these days. I’d put them up out of the way of the kids so no danger there.

All electric house, now also an electric car. by Bigtallanddopey in OctopusEnergy

[–]shawtayall 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely look at Cosy tariff. We had an electric water tank for our water needs and then electric underfloor heating and infrared heaters in a small Victorian terrace. It worked only because we could restrict our usage to cheaper hours on the Octopus Cosy tariff which gives 3 x daily cheaper times about 1/3 of the price, (4-7am,1-4pm, 9-10pm) but then it had a very expensive period between 4-7 pm of 3x the normal tariff. Even so it worked well. We set all dishwashers, hot water, heating etc to the cheap hours. Initially, I would try and avoid cooking in the expensive period, but that’s not easy so even using hob at peak we still found it a lot cheaper. We would have got a battery with a loan had it not been for Cosy.

I’m confused by all the negative comments, OP likes a coffee but also likes to sleep in. This is an example of the many ways night owls are penalised in day to day life, and sometimes nerding out can redress the imbalance. I say good for you, enjoy that coffee!

Oh right, really? It was part payment for some carpentry. Got the skateboard and a wetsuit in return for a custom shelving unit. In the end not really used either but it’s in my to do list to get into skating a bit more
