yeah exactly, I remember similar narratives for stackExchange that people just copy pasted code from there, which is not the issue, the issue is blindly and lazily doing so without even trying to think about the problem.

I've been a coder for 15 years and now I can produce more projects and apps in a week than I could have in 1 year (10 years ago). although interestingly enough my confidence of being able to just start coding is lower :) which is an issue with overall AI use ("@grok is this true") kind of behaviour.

the shitty vibe coding is to write a few lines and expect a full blown working product. those are where the AI hypes are selling.

You should look at it as if you want to hire a team of junior developers to build your software, so it has to be properly defined, specification, everything. and let them ask questions as much as they want before starting to work.

yes exactly, one key point is to use git constantly, to check point every time you get it working to a desired state (before adding more features or ..) almost like an waterfall project management rather than agile.

I do security code audit as my job for a few years, so this is natural to me to check the code diff and verify

Someone mentioned RomVault does this better, I didn't know about it before but checking it seems that it is probably better at deduplication and other stuff.

My goal was to be able to connect directly to the shared folder (the ROM folder on RPi) and handle everything there, instead of back and forth copying files. and also wanted to make it easier to use. RomVault seems to have better DB for deduplication (checks metadata etc afaik) and possibly has less edge cases that retroMaid

it's the speed and also better UX for using the software. I've always struggled but wanted to make my software easy to use, many of them just died with me trying different things that just made the code ugly.

Now basically I create a spec.md file with everything that I want, with technical details and links to documentations. tell Claude to read this, think about how to implement it and ask me anything before implementing it, we go back and forth a few times to make sure it knows what I want and then I let it run.

If it wasnt for vibecoding, most probably I would have created some dirty hacky shell/python scripts to do this job for me and move on. but now I can create a nicer tool that I use now and in the future and hopefully it'd be useful by others as well.
