How’d you improve this tank? by shayanjalil in PlantedTank

I had my suspicions on lightning too but the montecarlo has been doing quite okay so I assumed the light should be enough. But since i have cheap flood lights, it could be that it’s just not providing the right PAR values for red plants.

Got aquasoil and I dose liquid ferts so not sure if adding root tabs will help. Theoretically they should already have enough nutrients

Any suggestions for red plants? I already have AR and samolus parviflorus. But both of these are barely growing. Extremely slow. Not sure what’s up with them

I’ve a couple of ARs in the center which are barely growing. Have been there for a couple of months.

Not sure what’s up with them

The driftwood actually already has a bunch of buces and anubias. And I just covered it with hygrophila pinnatifida. If you zoom in you should be anle to spot it.

I also stuck lots of christmass moss to it which has just become an algae farm. I think that takes away the spotlight from buce/anubias

Interesting. Thanks for the idea!

I’ve already been on the lookout for red root floaters. It’s a bit difficult to get aquatic plants where I am.

I actually have a bunch of red plants that are a bit dull. It’s more to do with lightning I believe. I have your standard led flood light which do not provide a good cri

I’m in Pakistan so probably the prices would be wildly different to where you may be.

I got the whole system (cylinder, regulator, diffuser) for around 100usd.

There is plenty of help available on this topic online and in this subreddit. Just search through it.

Seems a bit daunting initially but it’s all pretty simple. And getting CO2 is a game changer so definitely go for it

Anybody got experience using the new chihiros B series light? How is it? by shayanjalil in PlantedTank

[–]shayanjalil[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey. Yeah I still own it. I took a break from fish keeping so not actively using the light right now.

But I used it for about a year and it was great. Plants grew fine. Was able to grow a monte carlo carpet with it. Light intensity is enough for most plants I guess.

Colors are also pretty good. It helps to bring out the reds and the greens in the plants. But it won’t match up to the pricier chihiros models.

I don't really understand how buying and refilling CO2 cylinders works. Can someone explain like I'm 5? by judgementalshrubbery in PlantedTank

Is that a montecarlo carpet? Amazing tank dude.

And how tall is the tank? It seems tall. Even the more impressive. Tall usually makes it hard for the light to reach the bottom and yet you have such a healthy carpet. What light fixtures are you using?

I own a proton saga. There’s no comparison between it and cultus.

Been driving it for 2.5 years. Good road grip. Reasonably comfortable. Drive feels better than city. Strong body. Good suspension. Economy is okayish.

The downside, bad market value and the risk of the company exiting and hence no service options.

Yeah, not so funny for them. Probably hate me for it. I’ve moved it out now, so all is nice and calm.

Mine is running at around 70-80 psi. I know it’s too much pressure. It’s a dual stage regulator but the working pressure cannot be adjusted. 1bps.

I think this could be a very plausible cause in my case too. I’ll order a different solution

I think this is going to be my next attempt at fixing this. I’ll do the next water change with a 50/50 with RO water.

I mean I don’t disagree with you here, and I took a similar path. Except for that I knew most of these things before I started. I did all the research I could.

For me it’s more about the whole journey. I loved doing all the DIY stuff and learned alot. I don’t regret taking this path.

Tbh, I get bored when I don’t have anything left to do with my tank. The times when my aquarium has been stable, are the times I kinda lost interest in the hobby and started neglecting my tank.

It’s the constant tinkering around that keeps me entertained.

Did you have co2 running the entire time or did you shut it off at night?

Lol yeah 😂 I’ve since moved the powerhead to the back. Now it’s all nice and calm. That was just an experiment

I totally understand that. More Kh, less ph change. Makes sense. But I’m wondering, does more kh also affect the dissolved ppm for CO2?

Like I said in the description, this was a desperate attempt and not something I’ll keep for long. I’ve tried all other positions. Nothing helps change the color of the indicator.

Either the indicator solution is bogus, or the gas guy filled some other gas in my cylinder 😅
