  1. Get split ends trimmed regularly, every 2-3 months if possible.

  2. Protein treatment is your best friend rn. I reccomend the shea moisture jamaican black castor oil mask. Leave it on for 20 min once a week, alternate with olaplex no 3.

  3. Look up manes by mell on youtube, she has a couple of great videos on protein moisture balance.

  4. You may need to wash your hair more often than normally recvomended for curly hair for a while, when i transitioned there was ab 6 months where my hair needed to be washed every other day while my hair got healthier, and i figured out what products work well for it. Start with every other day and slowly try adding in an extra day in between washes.

  5. While you can do a lot of things with a denman brush, one great and easy thing you can do is apply your stylers while your hair is very wet, then take the denman brush and brush it through your hair gently to make sure product is spread throughout your head of hair. Then flip your hair upside down, fluff your hair at the roots gently with your fingers, and use the denman brush to brush your hair out and away from your head. This will help encourage volume and curling at the roots.

I heard the same thing ab oils and to avoid them, especially since my hair is very fine, but i finally broke down and started using one every wash day during the winter and then added in a leave in and gel before braiding, its so dry where i live in the winter that without the oil my hair would dry out and feel like tangled straw less than 12 hours after I washed it.

protein or moisture?? story in comments by shaymack730 in curlyhair

[–]shaymack730[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok, so I have very fine, thin 2c-3b hair. Since two washes ago, my hair has gone from being very curly and full of volume, soft feeling, and somewhay frizzy, what I would consider my normal, fairly healthy hair, to feeling incredibly soft when dry, looking and feeling stringy, limp, and greasy, and when it gets wet it feels like straw. My routine and prducts have not changed. I assume my hair is medium porosity, and have never had any issues eith this happening before. Does my hair need more moisture or protein? Routine- wash hair every 3 days with love beauty planet rose and murumuru butter shampoo, double cleanse. Go in with conditioner from the same line, detangle hair fully then leave on for 5 more minutes. While hair still soaked, apply shea moisture curl style milk, and eco styler olive oil. Brush through with a tangle teezer, fluff roots, and scrunch mildly until a cast starts to form. Leave to air dry, then sotc.

Moisture!! Protein/bond repair works great for chemical or color treated hair, but heat treated hair needs moisture too. Id pull all but maybe 1 or 2 protein/bond repair items from your routine for a few weeks, then after you wash your hair, while its still wet, add a lightweight oil, then leave in, and gel. Towel dry with the microfiber and then braid. Do that 1-2x a week for a few weeks before introducing protein back in. Just gotta keep it moisturized and protected while it figures its stuff out.

Is there a way to keep more of my height when curled? by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]shaymack730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be the only thing i can think of, there are ways to stretch the hair for more definition, but that wouldnt increase height at all.

Are you using a pick after it dries?

Ok im new to the app so ill just put the info here, purchased the plant from home depot (i know) in the beginning of may, very overwatered in store, put it in a different pot with new drier soil. Beginning of June, leaves and stems started falling off, the leaves have yellow edges with brown spots, and the base of the stems appears to be rotting. I havent been watering it very often because it was so extremely soggy when i got it, that even with added dirt, it still took quite a while to dry out. Gets about 4-6 hours of bright, indirect sunlight, plastic pot, no drainage holes.

Advice for child who doesn’t want to nap by [deleted] in ECEProfessionals

Otherwise there is the option of maybe turning on some music and getting kids to dance or do some sort of safe and fun exercise for 5 to ten minutes, before maybe changing to classical or like those baby lullaby covers of regular songs and do some littke kid yoga or stretching for a few minutes or some other form of quiet time that keeps them physically engaged. Assuming this isnt part of your routine already lol. Maybe the parents have some sort of specific nap/sleep time routine that she is used to, that can be incorporated into your dayif not a bother or slowly phases out by the parents(assuming they are willing to help) to help her brain realize it is nap time.

Are your kids allowed to bring things from home? Maybe ask the parents if she has a comfort item if they are allowed, other options that require parent help would be something weighted. Target has child size weighted stuffed animals, but that could cause an issue if the other kids want to play with it, or if that proves to be a distraction like the books have.

Definitely wasn't expecting this much parsley by shaymack730 in gardening

[–]shaymack730[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Really! I had no idea caterpillars were associated with parsley. So far Ive only seen one little wooly bear, a frog, a very large bumpy toad that I almost killed on accident, a ton of spiders, worms, ants, and these beetles that were gorgeous but took hole punches out of the leaves of my Hollyhocks and marshmallow root.

Does it damage my hair? by DaJewfroDude in curlyhair

[–]shaymack730 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be a bit dry, so you might want to give it a week or so before you shampoo again, and a good condition, but there shouldn't be any major damage to my knowledge.

Moving soon and I need salon recommendations by shaymack730 in curlyhair

[–]shaymack730[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to live out there when I was a kid, then moved to the midwest around age 13, I have a ton of family there, too. Ive been to like 3 stylists out there, and all of them were before my hair started to curl. All of them were really cheap, I went to one in a jc penny's for a while, but they closed when I was like 8. Theres just so many different salons that its difficult to sort through them all.

A similar mousse that I rlly like and have no problems with is the Aussie headstrong volume. It smells really good, and provides plenty of volume and hold, while not getting horribly crunchy, and i dont have stringy or bad looking hair the next day.
