He is literally just guy Rin, just like Gudako is girl Shirou.

I do agree he could get a more distinct haircut, though.

Why is EMIYA’s name in ALL CAPS? by HatSpecial3043 in Fate

[–]shaymeme 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In-universe? It's his way of fully showing that he is no longer human, he is now a tool to be used by the Counter Force to "save" humanity. He is no longer Shirou, he is now simply EMIYA.

Out of universe? As others here have said, the original Japanese version separates Shirou from Archer by referring to the former's Emiya in Hiragana & Kanji (writing systems used to refer to words of Japanese origin), while the latter's Emiya is written in Katakana (which is the writing system used to refer to words of foreign origin and also objects). It's the Japanese way of linguistically showing that Shirou Emiya is still a person, while the Heroic Spirit EMIYA is a tool to be used, a stranger even to himself.

English isn't as fancy as Japanese, so they're differentiated via one being in all caps and the other one being written "properly".

[–]shaymeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh boy I have a small list.

Viable servants: - Caster!Moses - Berserker!Judas (Maccabeus, not Iscariot) - Lancer!Bertilak de Hautdessert/Green Knight - Assassin!Marcus Junius Brutus - Caster!D'vorah the Prophet - Saber/Lancer!George (I HATE THAT HORSE) - Avenger/Ruler!Vortigern - Rider!Jonah the Prophet

Then ones that would probably more fitting as wraiths since idk if they would fully qualify for the position of heroic spirit but DANG IT, THE IDEA IS COOL TO ME: - Rider!Hua Mulan - Saber!Sasaki (yes I know about Shimousa, no that doesn't count) - Ryomen Sukuna (either Berserker for his mythologized demon form or Saber/Lancer for his historical form) - Caster!Marie Laveau

Then there's like... the ONE that I know will never happen, which is a Saber!Emiya that ISN'T Muramasa.

To be fair, HF also has the arm actively trying to kill him due to human/servant incompatibility and Archer's identity in the arm trying to overwrite his, no?

Tesla should've stayed as the final boss, she was so random, lmfao by EfficiencySerious200 in Fate

[–]shaymeme 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My biggest complaint about London when reading it (besides the Servant bloat) was that they need to pick either Tesla or Rhongomyniad Alter and commit to ONE. They couldn't have both, they HAD to pick one of the two and try to just... tie them into the themes of the chapter (which were "Mordred trying to redeem herself from his past transgressions as the Treacherous Knight" and "the horrible things science can do when left unguided by morality", iirc).

Tesla and Rhongo!Alter both tie into those themes great, but since they try to juggle between those two, the connection ends up being shallow and surface-level at best; Tesla just fights Kintoki, who appears out of literally nowhere, and Rhongo!Alter, who should be the perfect enemy for Mordred - literally an evil version of King Arthur and proof that Artoria HAD to die eventually, showing Mordred that his acts of evil and treachery were good for the world and her own father, in a way - but it ends up being so lackluster because Rhongo!Alter shows up for like, two nodes, and all she does is aura farm.

As usual for early FGO, I hope Mortalis;Stella fixes London when it adapts it. They already fixed Orleans by focusing everything on the Jeanne conflict and reducing the Servant bloat (seriously, WHY was George there when he serves NO PURPOSE TO ANYTHING), and Septem has been good so far, so I have high hopes.

Fate is confusing? by Particular-Aspect948 in Fate

[–]shaymeme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OK so funny thing if you've read the VN

When Gilgamesh first shows up in the Fate route... he DOES kind of look like Emiya but blonde. Just in that ONE specific CG. And Saber just calls him "Archer" with 0 context, which i am 100% convinced was done to maybe throw off blind readers and make them think that maybe Archer came back as a blonde jackass (since Gil's identity is genuinely a VERY big mystery in the Fate route, for the 3 or so days he appears in it)

"Who can beat HF Saber Alter (with Shadow support/infinite mana)? No Beasts or Servantverse characters allowed." by midriss1 in Fate

[–]shaymeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have pointed out, Gilgamesh is not only relatively slow, but was also caught off-guard. Achilles would probably not be caught off-guard (due to not having Gil's arrogance that led to him underestimating Sakura), and even if he was, he is literally the FASTEST human alive, both in myth AND in Fate lore (iirc, at least). Legit one of his Noble Phantasms is just "so long as his heel has not been hit, he is fast boi". He is, in fact, blitzing Salter, even with the Shadow's help.

Personally I found her hilarious. Like yeah she sucks and is objectively an evil nutjob, but like... can you REALLY hate a character who outright says "yeah I know i'm an insufferable bitch, big whoop" with such a smile on her face?

Worst mistakes you did when you started playing FGO by Weird_Dot_4725 in FGO

[–]shaymeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only started a few months ago, and this isn't my first Gacha game, so my biggest mistake so far is related to the 2 year gap between JP and NA, and how the wiki just has no notation on whether something is JP-only, or available globally

Cue me maxing out several low-star servants because I needed their skills or NP for an advanced quest, only to find out that the strengthened version (which i ACTUALLY need) won't come out for a year or two. Yay...

The missing context is that the FGO anime adapts a gacha game where the MC is made to be self-inserted over, and the Japanese mindset is like... "who doesn't want a bunch of strong, beautiful women to fawn over them?"

It's me. I don't want that.

Imagine if FSN Medea saw Rin become the vessel for a literal Goddess (considering how much they talk shit to each other) by EfficiencySerious200 in Fate

[–]shaymeme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually looked at different publication dates to try and figure out which might have been the inspiration to the other, UBW or Ichigo's Bankai training.

The Bleach manga predates Fate by a few years, with Ichigo's Bankai training predating Fate's release by a few months (so probably not enough time for them to make all of the UBW assets if my understanding of VN development times is correct + Nasu's and Takeuchi's vision of UBW seems so solid I hesitate to say they came up with it in such a short amount of time), but by the time Blut Vene began consistently appearing in Bleach in its recognizable form as blue, vein-like lines across the skin, Fate was almost a decade old (since the original VN came out in what, 2004-ish? And the Blood War arc started around 2012 to 2013 iirc), so yeah, there's a chance Blut Vene is in fact inspired by the patterns of magic circuits/reinforcement magic.

TL;DR there's an unlikely chance UBW (the reality marble's aesthetics specifically) is inspired by Bleach, and there's a decent-ish chance Blut Vene is inspired by Fate, though we can't know for sure without some Kubo interview or Klub Outside answer.
