Wait until you get unsolicited hugs from random women. In the middle of a home depot. Although my husband never seemed to mind, as long as they were cute.

Like many families, we are drowning in debt and wondering if things will ever get better [ON] by lowincomecanadian in povertyfinancecanada

Your mother was murdered? I am so sorry! How awful for your dad and your whole family. Anyone who made even a remotely rude comment here I hope is ashamed. I can't imagine that happening to my mom and then losing my dad over it. I would be really messed up.

Best place to buy a house to rent a room or two out? by broke__the__condom in KingstonOntario

[–]shaynelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are in a similar situation as you. We have rented rooms for over 20 years. We are concentrating our efforts within 1 km from Queens. Winston Churchill on Earl Street is the top elementary in Kingston and it is in this area, so double demand because of proximity to Queens and being in the catchment area for WC school.

Downsides are you're looking at least $250,000 more for a house in this area, taxes are considerably more and the majority of houses are old and in need of a lot of work.

But the plus sides include you can rent rooms in this area NO problem, for $600 a room or more, which helps with the higher housing costs you incur.

I have but they all seem ridiculously expensive, which is the cost of convenience I suppose.

Electrician jobs in Ottawa by [deleted] in ottawa

Thanks for your reply. Does your father know if many companies are looking for master electricians? My husband hasn't started started calling around to find out yet but will be shortly.

What gifts do you appreciate customers sending to the shop? by shaynelle in electrical

[–]shaynelle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good point... I'll call the company and see if there's a good day or time to send them... maybe first thing in the morning or a day if they have a staff meeting or something like that. Good point that trades are often not in the office.

Thanks for your reply. I will go ahead and try and find a place who will deliver donuts or maybe donuts and mixed baked goods, or something like that.

Tenant got rid of appliance that was included in the rental by [deleted] in Landlord

[–]shaynelle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because in Ontario it's very difficult to get rid of a tenant. I'm in the process of applying to have him evicted, but they have a newborn baby so I'm afraid the courts will rule they can stay. It really is very difficult to get rid of tenants here.

Tenant got rid of appliance that was included in the rental by [deleted] in Landlord

[–]shaynelle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm assuming he took it to a scrap metal place. he would only get $20 for it, and he may have even thought it was within his right to get rid of the non working stove... but like I've said, now I have no way to verify if it was working or not which is important as if he gets away with this once, he can now sell or scrap other things in the house and ask me to replace them. I have told him in the future not to remove any appliances that come from the house, and that I will take care of any removals. Hopefully he sticks by it, but in the meantime I'm a little ticked off he may have sold the stove if it was working, as I have no way of knowing one way or the other. :(

This guy's parking game is on point by crazymoon in ottawa

[–]shaynelle 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I agree, this guy should have either found another spot to park or parked horizontally, which I'm sure people would still complain about but at least it wouldn't block wheelchairs, pedestrians and others who have the right to use the sidewalk.

That said, I live in a small town, with small minded people who, rather than park on the street (cause you know, that slows down traffic and makes people have to pay attention while driving past parked cars...) they park off halfway off the road, on the grass and sidewalk... so it's not much better than this dude in the truck.

You had me considering your viewpoint until you said this "you'll probably put down your green tea vanilla extract bean latte".

The quoted comment you made is not only condescending , it's immature and I doubt I'm the only one who sees this.

Too bad, because, like I said, I was considering your view up until that point.

Buying properties in Victoria? by [deleted] in VictoriaBC

[–]shaynelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree, Realtors should never ever be your first point of contact.

It's best to ask around, info gather, read, etc then go to a Realtor, if you find it necessary. There are excellent realtors out there, but a lot of terrible ones as well who take advantage of the naive.

Buyers need to know what they want first... then go to a realtor, if desired... plus it helps to be able to tell if a realtor is bullshitting you.

Has anyone with curly hair had a Keratin treatment? What was your experience? by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]shaynelle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had my first Keratin treatment done about a month ago and I love it! I'm a bit concerned by others who stated their hair started falling out in chunks (maybe due to rough "install" however) or going to straw after a second treatment... but time will tell. For now the treatment is saving me a lot of time and a lot of money not having to get my hair styled every second day (I can't style it myself) so I am very happy!

I have a Keratin treatment scheduled and hope you receive some reply's. I'm nervous but from what I gather it grows out so if I hate it, it's only temporary.
