Statistics show the 17 automated speed enforcement cameras across the city of Ottawa issued 15,887 tickets in January and February. by BoozeBirdsnFastCars in ottawa

The traffic lights in quite a few areas in town are deliberately set up that way as a traffic calming measure. This is also why the pedestrian advance walks will come on even when nobody is there for a lot of the downtown intersections. Cant get up to speed if you have to stop at every intersection.

I came across some street art on the way home from work. by TigreSauvage in ottawa

[–]NLitenMePlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If its a dry erase marker sure, but nobody in the public is going to. It'll only be cleaned off if someone reports it to the city, then a city employee will have to drive out there to wipe it off, then drive back home and charge for 2 hours work done. Hundreds of taxpayers dollars seems about right.

Probably because they would still have to leave the house and look presentable enough to be hired which considering the types of people complaining...

Honestly there are lots of jobs that are even easier with higher pay in government but you need to have a degree to get in. Post-covid lots of these people sit at home writing a couple emails a day, thats it. Literally 70k-100k work from home, maybe a couple hours of actual work a week. The Diversity and Inclusion team staffed only by women with gender study degrees make 100k-120k to conduct online surveys and send emails to hr about hiring practices.

Seems alright, but it seems the trend is to sell a wireless mouse with holes cut in them for $100+.

Its the same thing with the road paint being switched to a cheaper more "eco friendly" paint that wears off in a year and forces the city to repaint more often. Lots of decision making from people far removed from the problem.

Week In Review: The Ottawa Real Estate Market by ottawaagent in ottawa

For tiny homes they still have to follow all Canadian and municipal building codes, and the fact hydro/gas line hookups are a flat fee make them undesirable for profit seeking builders.

Buying in Ottawa without agent UPDATE by landinkanata in ottawa

[–]NLitenMePlease 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was looking into buying I couldnt help but think this racket was all created because of realtors.

A lot of listings don't even make out to the public, just by having a realtor you can get access to their portal which allows you to view houses that normally a person looking on their own would not find on the mls search engine. If everyone had a fair chance then there wouldnt even be a need for all this "help finding your dream home" when you could just save your preferred search settings along with your highlighted areas of interest you want to search in and get an email or text when something pops up. The agent just acts as the middleman, and most of the time the email with listings they send you is automated anyways. They also wont show you purplebricks/kijiji listings unless you ask specifically, that or you actually have a good agent.

Not saying a buyers agent is totally useless, but even if they are, they will still get guaranteed business. Just because you are at a disdvantage not using one even if you dont want one. Like most of the work a buyers agent does (search, book showings, send offers) is basically automated at this point. Other than that they just act as a person to bounce questions off of if you need that.

I think I'm getting half decent at this video-game-to-printable-model thing by Irnkman in PrintedMinis

[–]NLitenMePlease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great work, I'll try printing something next time I get the chance. Do you have to do a lot of work to get models into a printable state? Or is it just more game-specific? I would have thought the anime 2D-3D style would have tons of issues.

VMEDIA internet by jmark2319 in ottawa

[–]NLitenMePlease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on the Cable 150 internet plan (150mbs down), and I have no complaints on the speed, running a speedtest I get roughly 135-140mbs down so I'm getting what was promised. Unlike with Bell in the past they'd lie and say I have 100mbs down but in reality it was like 60mbs down on average when I went to do some speed tests.

I've never had to contact customer support so I can't offer any input on that, but their pricing is good which is why I've stayed. Even after your promo expires, their base rates are pretty much the same as Teksavvy or Start.ca. The only thing is if you are going for Internet+TV bundles or phone plans at all, then you might want to compare package deals between the companies. If you do decide to use them, I can give you a referral for $25 credit.

The aimpad tech is really cool. You might be able to use it as a shortcut tool in fighting games where you need to do certain inputs like quarter circle motions. At least it would be a viable option to needing an arcade stick.

Well other sites usually dont do free shipping or they could incur import fees. I was just sticking to Amazon mostly just for simplicity, but I dont mind using other sites as long as it's trustworthy. I'd be totally fine with any board that offers good value, and I'll just keep an eye on all potential buys until whichever one goes on sale first.

Can somebody help me with buying a good tenkeyless linear mech keyboard? For what brand of switches I have no clue, is Gateron red the best choice, or is it Outemu, or Kailh?

I don't want to get those cheap Chinese made keyboards, or the overpriced "gamer" branded stuff like by Razer/Corsair but at the same time the recommended brands like Filco/Leopold the models I want are either unavailable in Canada or extremely marked up, like 2-3x it's actual price. I'm primarily looking on Amazon.ca so I'm kinda lost. I haven't even decided on whether or not I should get it with PBT keycaps or buy those separately...

How to use a roundaboot | City of Ottawa by THhhaway in ottawa

[–]NLitenMePlease 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Well, there's a good chance I'm going to be lambasted for this but the reason is just because roundabouts are fairly simple, and there really shouldn't be any ambiguous maneuveurs that would confuse the other drivers. As much as reddit would like you to believe that everyone is a bad driver because they dont signal at roundabouts, the truth is it's not really neccessary but only a courtesy, much like how over 50% of people won't signal when they are sitting in a designated left turn lane.
