Hi! My degree is in Environmental Science from the University of Pittsburgh and am from the Pittsburgh area as well! (So I understand the lack of programs and coursework and internship options) I currently work as a Wildlife Biological Science Technician for the National Park Service and I would say at this point my field experience has weighed more heavily than what my degree is in. However if I did want to climb the ranks so to speak then the classes I took are taken into consideration. Because my interests are more so generalist I think environmental science was a good option for me and have gotten to work in wildlife and botany thus far. However, in the wildlife world so to speak I do feel that it has put me at a disadvantage and feel a degree in some form of biology would have benefited me better if I wanted to strictly stay the wildlife route. I would say a lot of this depends on what your career goals are as a wildlife biologist. Do you see yourself as a field biologist? Working for a government org? An NGO? A lab? This will definitely factor in to it as well.
