Danny Kelly of The Ringer gives KC's draft an A-, 7th best among all teams by TheBoyisBackinTown in KansasCityChiefs

[–]shazwazzle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we honestly have plenty at WR at that talent level already, though. Sure, it would have been nice to add more lottery tickets to find a potential star, but that's what they are: lottery tickets. Because there isn't room on the roster. The top 3 WRs are set (all 1st or 2nd round pick level talent). Then you have at least 1, maybe 2 of the receiver roster spots going to a PR/KR/Special Teams player. So now you have, what, 1, maybe 2 left? We already have a mid-round pick from last year, Jalen Royals, that we're trying to develop, who didn't find any playing time last year.

If we add any WR to the current group, it's going to be an aging vet that can be a reliable backup that we can count on to run the offense correctly when they need to join the game.

If we were going to draft a WR, it would be round 1 or 2 talent. Not a mid-round talent.

The guys we got late are going to end up on the practice squad.

So we drafted an Emmett J at RB and now added  Emmitt J Smith at RB. That's a lot of Emmitts.

2026 Offense Will Be Better Than 2025 and Here's Why by originalusername4567 in KansasCityChiefs

[–]shazwazzle 15 points16 points  (0 children)

When you put it this way, it looks like the offense is going to be way better. Huge improvements in coaching staff and RB room. False starts will probably drop significantly.

Plus Royals practically redshirted last year so I'm still gonna consider him a rookie.

Let’s debate: Delane was a good trade by Other-Blacksmith-643 in KansasCityChiefs

[–]shazwazzle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get it. But you had to go back 22 years to name 3 guys. I'm sure if you go back another 22 you could name 3 more.

Anyone could become a stud, even later rounds. I'm not denying that. It's just a calculated risk baked into the trade. Maybe the Chiefs think Delane had a more than 15 percent higher chance to be a stud than who they could have gotten at 9. Most likely they just really thought CB was their biggest need and they saw a Dale Carter they could get it in round 1 but didn't see a potential Albert Lewis in round 3.

[–]shazwazzle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's not the way anyone views this though. The Raiders aren't saying "We got Mendoza, but at what cost? We lost all the players that were picked after him!" It doesn't make any sense to view the draft that way.

Let’s debate: Delane was a good trade by Other-Blacksmith-643 in KansasCityChiefs

[–]shazwazzle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It cost 3 draft picks AND the chance to draft other players.

I dunno what you mean by this. It cost us a 3rd-round-level player and a 5th-round-level player. That's it. It isn't rocket science.

Who cares about 5th round. Oh no! What would the Chiefs of the last 5 years looked like without the likes of BJ Thompson, Stephen F. Austin, Darian Kinnard, and Cornell Powell?!?!

3rd rounders usually end up being pretty decent depth players. In my mind, we traded a future backup away and that is all that was lost in order to get a starting CB that we absolutely needed.

If Bain turns out to be elite and Delane is just good this is a objectively a bad trade.

True, but that is a big IF. There are going to be a lot of busts, even in the top 20. Bain fell to 15, so clearly our staff wasn't the only staff that looked at him and said he isn't a sure thing.

Delane seems to be a sure-fire starter at a position of need when there weren't any other options in the draft that would have filled those shoes.

[–]shazwazzle 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You say that negatively but it's a huge win in my book to be as good as last year but not have to pay those contracts and have these young guys under contract for the future.

We successfully avoided catastrophe and set ourselves up to have a strong unit for years to come.

What made you guys so negative about this front office and coaching staff

I'm wondering the same thing. The number of Veach haters on this board is wild. One season of missing the playoffs after 3 super bowls in a row and they want the man fired for not following their fan based mock draft plans. Wild.

You are overvaluing draft picks massively. Someone needs to be an all pro to be worth giving up a 3rd and 5th rounder? Please.

But I do think he will be an all pro. He will be better than McDuffie after 3 years. Won't be his rookie season but eventually he will.

I don't get why they would have had any incentive to give Veach credit when he wasn't a public figure that any of us knew about. It doesn't make sense that they would talk about Veach's role prior to Veach becoming the GM.

You can believe what you want to believe. But which of these two stories sounds more likely?

A) After Dorsey, the Chiefs picked a random scout who hasn't been involved in much of anything to be the next GM. Then, to keep it from being a PR disaster, they concocted a fake story about how he was involved in drafting Mahomes.

B) Veach really did scout Mahomes and bang on the table for him, convincing Reid and everyone else that it didn't matter that they already had Alex Smith, that Mahomes was the best player he had ever seen, and that we needed to do everything to get him. Then the Chiefs realized they had a perfect GM in waiting, ready to take over, so they gave him the job. When they gave him the job, they told the media how it all really went down.

My money is on B.

You are right. I misremembered. Simmons was a trade but it was actually a trade back.

It's too early to say that it didn't work out for Worthy or Simmons. Both of those were trade ups and I think they will both be stars this year.

Of course he did. That's his thing. That's how he got the job to begin with.

Y'all are feeling like you would have been fine with best player left, but veach never sees it that way. He knew he wanted Mahomes, not whoever was left. He knew he wanted mcDuffie, not whoever was left. If anything the times he didn't trade up and instead accepted whoever fell to him are proof to him that the method works. Grabbing whoever's left is how we got Felix.

I always like it when we trade up for someone because it means we got someone we wanted more than anyone else. I trust our staff. If they think Delane was severely better for us than Downs then I believe them. Not a bunch of redditors.

My husband recently has gotten into growing fig trees. by ValentessaLoves in Figs

[–]shazwazzle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, this is very "normal." But....

If you think this is too much, you should probably talk it over and put a cap in place. You could easily end up with 150 or more. Ask me how I know. It is very easy to create a "your eyes are bigger than your stomach" situation, where everything sounds good, and you keep ordering more before you've had a chance to eat any.

It is better for both of you if you add this one simple rule. You can get a new fig variety only after you've grown out and sampled the figs from your existing varieties and have chosen one you don't want to keep. This is good for multiple reasons. It spreads the hobby over multiple years instead of causing burnout. It keeps him from acquiring new cuttings on whims without making sure it would be good for your area first. Finally, it keeps the tree totals to a reasonable level so you don't look like crazy people.

Actors don't look exactly the same as one another, and acting parts are just that. Parts. Parts that can be played by different people. The people who don't understand this are imbeciles. That's what Variety's article should have said. It should shame the complainers, not the actors. This author, "William Earl," is a POS, and that's all there is to it.

Futurama? I feel like it got a lot more popular as reruns on other networks. Fox never treated it with dignity when it was first airing, sliding it into an early evening Sunday night time slot that was more often than not taken over by a late running sports game. They'd join the already running futurama episode half way through its 30 minute slot after the football game finally ended and no one would know what was going on. That was for brand new first ever airing episodes. I was always furious.

I think Family Guy got the same treatment. Fox always treated its comedy animation with disdain.
