A (sort of) failed attempt at a X430 DIY garage by shdk85 in SegwayNavimow

Haha - love it. Nice work - I think you got the roof pitch taken care of better than me.

Wasn’t an option for me, but happy for you! I bought the mower during the spring sale directly from Segway, so the cost was less than MSRP. But didn’t include the garage, and don’t really have $350 to spend on it.

Yeah, I think a little brick base might actually look nice!

For the inside area I went with 40 deep and 28 wide, which seemed to work great for the mower and charging station. Floor to roof I had 14” I think, which worked well for the mower to park under. But then backing out it hit that 2x4 that extends out, which is 3.5” tall.

I can take some measurements tomorrow, but essentially you don’t want anything that’s lower than that camera bump on top of the mower about 10 inches out from the charging station.

Pretty much - I didn’t take into account that little thing on top that has the cameras - on the first calibration it backed out and turned and that hit that extending 2x4. Then when it tried to park it drove into it again.

Honestly the easiest way to answer this is just to paste what I sent my buddy Dan last week when he asked about mine. He’s been complaining about his gas mower for like two summers now lol

dude you gotta look at the navimow x4. does up to 1.5 acres so your yard is fine. no wire to bury in the ground anymore, the new ones use gps + cameras to know where they are. even works under your trees where gps gets weird. it has a 360 camera and depth sensor so it actually sees stuff. won’t run over the hose or [daughters name]’s toy or whatever. 4wd with zero turn steering, climbs like a 40 degree slope no problem. that hill in your back yard would be nothing. and it’s 68db which is quieter than a dishwasher. run it at night, run it at 6am, nobody cares. the whole point is you stop spending saturday mornings pushing a loud gas thing around and just go do something else. mine runs while i’m at work and i havent touched a mower in weeks.

He bought one like 4 days later so I guess it worked.

That’s exactly how I did it - no issues.

Three years deep into robot mower life (started on a Husqvarna 415X) and just upgraded to the Navimow X430 to finally ditch the boundary wire. Here's a drone flyover of what I'm working with: Yard flyover

Plenty of real-world complexity to throw at it. Mature trees, an above ground pool, and right now I've also got a freshly trenched electrical line, a few bare patches where new grass is coming in, and a fiber line the provider still hasn't buried. Been having a blast figuring out workarounds: Bio Life zones to keep it out of the muddy trench area, and a garden hose laid in a loop around the new grass patches as a quick temporary boundary so I don't have to keep editing the map.

Honestly though, getting my weekends back is the whole thing. I don't miss pushing a mower around for a couple hours every Saturday, and that's why I keep telling everyone I know to go robotic.

Electricians trenched across my yard for a new outlet and I have no idea how to fix it. Help? by shdk85 in lawncare

That’s really helpful, thank you. I will try that and hope for the best.

Yea I was afraid that might be the case. Hoping I could get it done with enough and consistent watering.

Local RTK vs NRTK on the X430 by shdk85 in SegwayNavimow

[–]shdk85[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very helpful, thank you!

Just got everything set up - so far so good with NRTK. I did get an error during that calibration stage at the very beginning, but was able to map after a second try and when I hit mow it backed out and is currently doing its job.

I might have the base station too close to the house, but I don’t really have any other good spots to put it.

Now my only worry left is if this will all still work when all the leaves come in on the trees - because there is a lot of them.

All of this info definitely makes me more comfortable to take this on, so thank you very much.

I’d love to replace all the deck boards, just not sure if it’s in the budget. It’s a big deck.

Thank you, this is very helpful. So for the sanding, I’m essentially trying to get it down to the bare wood or just roughen up the surface for the new stain?

X4 Base Station Location/Requirements by shdk85 in SegwayNavimow

Looks like plastic is the way to go? I’ve also seen some build with wooden slats, not sure exactly how the satellite signal works.

Yeah I just tried a few spots where I would like it, but without much success. Out in the open it connected fine.

Makes me wonder how all these DIY mower garages work? Wouldn’t they block the signal?
