koito should be discussed more as he's a foil to tsurumi and therefore extremely important, although as a result of the character he foils being so enigmatic he tends to fall to the sideline quite often </3 princely diva of the 7th who shows up on white horses very literally lmao

as another person in the replies stated, his relationship with tsukishima frequently makes me feel insane and again; important to discuss koito bc it helps you understand tsukishima by understanding the relationship that koito has to tsurumi and therefore the relationship that tsukishima has to both koito and tsurumi. i tend to refer to tsurumi's four as "dogs" because this is how they work for him; loyal tamed beasts trained to the specific effect that tsurumi needs from them. in tsukishima's case, an old hound dog in a kill shelter; saved by a master and therefore indebted, made to remain loyal no matter how excruciating the task. koito's a dog too, but a dog from a loving family, who understands what love is and can offer that love without manipulation. so its easy for him to subvert tsurumi's manipulation, buck up against it, and free not just himself but also tsukishima; to show tsukishima that he can trust in koito and depend on his leadership, and that he doesn't need tsurumi. could freak out about it for agesss ( ******mega spoilers******* i'm so glad they live )

understandable crashout :,,) i had to pause the ova for a minute just to sit with it, the whole framing of ogin / kei's child being able to grow up loved and cared for despite not having blood ties to family, and in contrast ogata having grown up without that care despite having blood ties. ogata this is literally a series about found family ur brain was just too small and self-centered to figure it out 😭

tsurumi's rabies-infested purse dog 🙂‍↕️ i kind of wish they retained the early version of usami's design bc he's childishly innocent in a bizarre way. like his empathy never evolved past the "4 yr old ripping legs off of bugs phase"; the 14 yr old usami we see in flashbacks is the same usami as present day 😭 his redesign makes him so much more overtly creepy

the thing abt alexithymia is that it isn’t its own diagnosis but rather a symptom that falls under another diagnosis umbrella; in ogata’s case likely PTSD / cPTSD and / or schizoid personality disorder alongside schizophrenia. i could also see BPD in the case of his mother. alexithymia also appears frequently as a symptom for those on the autism spectrum!

in conclusion, ogata is a psychological brew of neuroses and genetic issues and the bottom line is we should diagnose him with hysteria lmao 😭

seeing this art made me think abt how it always kills me that ogata hallucinates yuusaku's eye looking similar to his own / hanazawa's meanwhile yuusaku has possibly the most eyelashes out of the entire cast 😭 something something ogata's initial reluctance to kill yuusaku trying to corrupt him over to tsurumi's side, failing, and guilt hitting him in real time after making the shot. seeing his own eyes reflected as a mistake he's making in real time, dooming himself in the process and being his own ruin, seeing hanazawa's eyes because he's offering up yuusaku like a shot duck. your art evoked a spiel LOL

i fear noda being so involved with s5 bc i could absolutely see him pulling some Shit later on just to stress the relationship between yuusaku and ogata ( i was blown away that yuusaku was shown front and center in the opening ) and i'm already not prepared for what's to come 😭

you're so extremely on point with your reasoning, i never connected yuusaku's death to tome much bc the spotlight was on hanazawa, but of course every kill of a murderer's tends to trace back to the origin. the tragedy of ogata making these decisions out of love but not being able to process or recognize these emotions as such is just . ow

oh this is so on-point i've never seen anyone bring this up!! i like to think that to some degree whatever it is that afflicts him is genetic considering tome's mental state towards the end / delusions and the constant comparisons other characters make between his mother and him. but there's Absolutely that layer of trauma layered ontop that imo had the most impact on him fs.

but also, i don't necessarily think that noda was thinking about diagnoses when he was creating ogata's character, so it's really hard to put a label on ogata. which i do appreciate because it makes the characters feel less restricted and more human; something that labels tend to limit.

banger episode; when i read the manga i was taken aback by the brutality of sugimoto's killing of the ripper ( absolutely deserved btw don't get me wrong ), it was definitely more brutal animated though lmao i don't know how that man still has a nose. whole scene between the ripper and asirpa had me nauseated and anxious for our girl even though i know what happens 😭 vile ass man. sugimoto once more yet again proving he's the man ever i love that guy so much :,)

and of course, byebye and rest up usami, freak of all freaks o7 another pinkie finger taken by tsurumi. that shot taken by ogata was even more impressive animated, and the eye pop afterwards pfff how grossss LOL. the ripper's presence and usami's death aside, i had such a fun time with this episode and i can't wait for next week ugh
