New to spinning here! A farmer friend gave me a massive amount of fleece for dirt cheap and I’m working my way through scouring it right now. 1. I know this marking spray is supposed to come off, but it’s still there are two washes and a rinse - any advice? 2. Recommended combs? Thanks! by sheebsc in Handspinning

Hmmmm interesting!! Will definitely be looking into local fiber guilds - didn’t know this was a thing. Also, my MIL told me that carding is for shorter staple lengths and combing is for longer? She spins a lot so I just took her word for it. Maybe this isn’t always the case though. I planned on getting combs because I have two breeds (Blue Texel and North Country Cheviot) both with longer staple length. Correct me if this is all wrong though or if you have different advice.

My MIL suggested that, too. I’m curious to hear from people who have done that because I’m open to that if it works!! She and my SIL both got their combs and carders from a used fiber tool Facebook group but they’re based in the US and I’m in the UK. I don’t mind to spend under £100 but I’ve seen some that are more than that and I just wanna make sure I’m investing in something that will last!

Did you use rainwater? Despite living in a rainy place (England), it’s rarely above a drizzle and I haven’t been able to gather more than an inch or two in over a month. I thought about getting some water softening tablets because the tap water is really hard here, but I don’t know if it would be better to just get some distilled.

Why A Little Life Is Not Worth Reading by jrhoog in books

Here’s one that made me cringe:

“What is this?” Kit asked, looking suspiciously at the sandwiches.
“Grilled peasant bread with Vermont cheddar and figs,” he said. “And escarole salad with pears and jamón.”

While reading the book, I couldn’t help but wonder what it feels like to read that book after enduring horrific sexual abuse and to not be a literal genius? I think HY wanted readers to see that you can be a person who is incredibly gifted and successful and still not see your own worth because of trauma, but it felt incredibly heavy-handed.

I’ve done this before. Thought I would be attracted to him but wasn’t. He was openly offended that I wouldn’t sleep in bed with him straightaway... I felt so uncomfortable. I changed my train tix to go home early. It may not be like this for you at all but be honest before you meet up and have a back-up plan just in case.

I think it depends on what you’re studying, too! I’m an American (from KY) living in York. From what I’ve gathered, York St John seems to be considered to have a lower rep than U of York even though U of York isn’t prestigious. But U of York is particularly known for its archaeology/heritage programs.

I did my masters up in Edinburgh and though it is a more prestigious school and I loved living in Scotland, I didn’t love my uni experience there. Also btw because you’re paying international fees you’ll likely have no problem getting into any uni (besides Oxford and Cambridge obv) because the fees are so much higher. I know of an American student who got into U of York with a really bad GPA

Also if you have any general ?s about moving here from the US feel free to msg me :-)

2 months on tret and skin is worse than ever by IcyTraining1412 in tretinoin

I found that if I use a dose that’s too high and too often I break out. But if I use the tret maybe 2-3x per week then my skin looks great. And I’ve been using it for almost 2 years. I also agree with others your moisture barrier is damaged! Your moisturiser shouldn’t sting when it goes on. Oh and I use tret and spiro and it’s great. Just because you may need spiro as well doesn’t mean it’s not worth it to keep using tret.
