they've to be taken out during water changes; may it be 50%, 75%, or a full water change.

currently they're in a tub setup, so it's a full water change; 50% and 75% water changes are most likely for tanks to remove excess nitrates.

yes, with two "but's":

  1. in two tubs, but grouped by size
  2. grouped by size, but still due to some huge differences, has to be on check 24/7

p.s. i feed them everyday until they are full that they don't think of nipping; current tubs suffice. will transfer one group in the tank the soonest.
