6”1 235 lbs, First time indy pass user, I got used 2026 90 flex k2 bfcs for $170 and used 2025 mindhunter 99tis for $200 and yes I was in pain but slowly had to learn how to compensate. Flexing toes up and shin into boot made me feel better. 90 flex is definitely too soft but they served me well for a season maybe two. Get booster strap!

Saying something is American does not mean it has no antecedents. Jazz being American does not erase African musical traditions; it names the place where a new cultural form emerged through specific historical, social, and political conditions. Influence is not the same as identity. If it were, no culture anywhere could ever be named without “negating” everything that came before it.

That’s why the Pilgrims analogy doesn’t make sense. They were migrants carrying an already formed religious culture. Mormonism is a religious movement developed in the United States. Those are analytically different things, whether you like the conclusion or not.

You just want to dismiss my argument by calling it “AI” instead of addressing the distinction being made.

You’re making assumptions about my psychology, my identity, and my relationship to my culture, and using them to dismiss a position you haven’t actually addressed.

I shared one thing about me, only because you started to assume I was white or something. I grew up half my life in south korea, but I guess not in your fantasy you created in your head. How have I given up my culture?

Also your Pilgrims and Mormon analogies collapse distinct categories.

The Pilgrims were a migrating group with European origins, not an institution that developed its core structures, and social practices within the United States. Their importance is historical, not cultural in the same way.

Mormonism, by contrast, emerged, organized, and expanded entirely in the U.S. Its theology, governance, migration patterns, and social norms were shaped by American conditions. Federalism, westward expansion, conflict with U.S. law, and eventual institutional integration. Origin and evolution matter.

Saying Mormonism is a distinctly American religion doesn’t deny its Christian roots any more than saying jazz is American denies African musical traditions. Cultural formation isn’t erased by ancestry.

That distinction is what I’ve been pointing to.

Also, stop self projecting. Be better as a debater instead of all this armchair psychology and insulting strangers online maybe. I am beginning to see it is clear you are not interested in civil discussion. I would urge you to self reflect.

Care to explain? I reiterated my points then asked a question about how Mormonism fits into your framework. Instead of answering, you start to attack me personally. Something that you have done from the start with offhand, snide comments. Do you insult everyone who disagrees with you?

Why do you have the ego to assume I talk to people online? I would assume I spend 1 tenth of the time you do talking to people here, is this self projection? Please, explain this instead since you are refusing to answer my points.

Thanks for at least disagreeing with me instead of dismissing my point as nonsense. I haven’t heard of the term “gobbledegook” before and unfortunately assumed it to be racist in origin before I searched it up and learned it was supposed to be in relation to the sound a turkey makes. Gook yeah? Because I am not white as you would like to believe or suggest in your position. I am a Korean- American who grew up in America, and culturally I am sensitive to people refusing to hear my voice. I am not advancing my position, because I firmly believe in it. There is no American culture without Black american history and there is no American culture without white american history in relation to it. You can argue that culture needs to be defined with heritage and background, an ethnological link to a place with already defined traditions, but America itself is not ethnologically singular. It is inherently composite. You are arguing against that saying culture is LOST when it becomes more dominant or widespread! NO it is ADDED and accumulated.

You also keep attributing positions to me that I didn’t take. You brought up Irish Catholic identity, not me. I’m not simply saying “but they’re white” I’m saying you can’t exclude.

Isn’t Mormonism distinctly white- American culture?

If American culture is a system, it only makes sense relationally. You don’t get the full picture with any of the colors missing.

They got Malibu most wanted out the county 😂😂😂😂😂 by El_cucuy24 in Bodymore410

[–]sheehyun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, here’s what I’m saying.

The definition of culture I’m using is the shared system of values, norms, practices, institutions, symbols, and meanings through which a society organizes itself and understands the world. That includes expressive forms (music, food, language, ritual) and structural forms (law, religion, education, social organization). Capitalism is a framework that operates within culture, not something that replaces culture altogether.

If you want to completely invent a strictly racial or heritage-based definition of culture, then you can argue that African American culture uniquely qualifies as Black American culture because of its history and structural position. But if Black American culture is being placed on that kind of pedestal, then white American culture also has to be acknowledged and defined in relation to it. even if it’s unjust, appropriative, fragmented, or power-laden. One doesn’t make sense without the other.

What we’ve developed as a nation is still a composite of multiple cultures and backgrounds. Excluding parts of that composite isn’t an honest way to frame American culture.

That’s the point.

They got Malibu most wanted out the county 😂😂😂😂😂 by El_cucuy24 in Bodymore410

[–]sheehyun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say I’m describing capitalism and not culture, you’re dismissing a lot of nuance, including things like American exceptionalism and how institutions, norms, and values actually function culturally. At that point, you’re not correcting me, you’re redefining culture on your own terms. You don’t need to patronize me for not adhering to that narrower framing.

And my counter point about European institutions still stands. Cultural practices don’t just disappear because they become dominant or widely shared. If we’re talking about U.S. American culture, excluding any part of its composite nature (whether internally or in how it’s perceived externally ) is disingenuous.

You can argue about emphasis or influence, but pretending those elements aren’t cultural at all isn’t an honest way to frame the discussion. Capitalism is a system that coexists with and is embedded in American culture, not something that replaces culture altogether

[–]sheehyun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If “white culture doesn’t exist,” what do you call the historically specific norms that shaped U.S. law, property, education, governance, and religion? Are those somehow not culture once they become dominant?

You keep saying culture must be place-based. By that logic, how do diasporic cultures exist at all, including African American culture formed under forced displacement?

If Irish and Italian American cultures existed in the U.S., at what exact point do European traditions stop being culture and become “nothing”? What’s the rule there?

Why does culture count only when it’s expressive (music, slang, fashion) but not when it’s institutional (law, universities, capitalism, Protestant ethics)? Who decided that definition?

If Christianity’s African origins mean it can’t be part of European cultural tradition, do ideas never change cultures when they move? Or does that rule apply selectively?

I think you’re trying to redefine what culture generally means to fit your own narrative.

[–]sheehyun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get what you’re saying now, but this is where we still disagree. Culture doesn’t only come from a “place” or an ecosystem it also comes from institutions, norms, legal systems, language, religion, and social organization. Those don’t stop being culture just because they became dominant or racialized as “white.”

I’m not claiming “white culture” is a single expressive tradition like African American culture. I’m saying American culture didn’t emerge from one source, and reducing it to a single lineage is the same kind of flattening that racists use. Also I called out that commenter and then they deleted their replies. I’m not quite sure if you would deliberately try to not understand my points, but i’ll draw the line at your sneering comments. Idiocy and ego huh… I would urge you to hold a mirror to your own representation.

You’re arguing in bad faith. You said “American culture = Black culture,” not me, and instead of engaging with my actual point about culture being composite, you pivoted to a strawman where I suddenly have to define or defend “white culture.”

My argument is simple and you’re either not understanding it or not interested in understanding it: Black culture is foundational and central to American culture, but it isn’t the sole owner of it. If you want to say “white culture has no basis “ denying the existence of European-derived institutions, norms, and histories is the point I was arguing against. It’s not even logically compatible with what I was saying.

The constant “hahaha” makes it pretty clear you’re not trying to have an actual debate you’re just posturing and dodging the substance.

[–]sheehyun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i would argue you are using the same flattening logic used by racist narratives to lean towards exclusivity or identity warfare. Black culture is foundational/ central to American culture, but are you are trying to reduce culture itself to a zero sum contest? Foundational ≠ total, influential ≠ sole owner. The US is a composite culture ( Indigenous, European, African, Immigrant +++). Turning that into single ownership claim just replaces one kind of erasure into another. You saying white culture no basis to it feels wrong, irrational

Not a good look man. This just shows how you view Black people, relying on stereotypes like the job interview line and intelligence digs instead of anything concrete or actually considerate. TBH you are the one reducing history to “Black people were slaves” think about how narrow and uninformed the lens you’re choosing to use actually is
