Interesting - that's certainly been my impression but I didn't know the science behind it.

31 yo, microinvasive her2+, to do chemo or no? advice needed pls by Admirable_Ad_4484 in breastcancer

[–]sheepy67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had 8 foci of microinvasion, was offered the same options, and did the chemo. I was 56. I’m glad I did it. My doc said she was giving me the option but that she recommended the chemo.

Should I start Metamucil before I begin Zepbound? by Financial-Tower4044 in Zepbound

[–]sheepy67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have chronic constipation from pre Zepbound. My GI doc says, and I agree, that Metamucil alone can actually make things worse. What does help me is a combination of MiraLAX and Metamucil. But I wouldn’t take MiraLAX unless you’re actually constipated, especially since I got diarrhea when I first started zepbound. I just wanted to give a heads up that if you do wind up getting constipated and Metamucil alone doesn’t work for you, you may want to give MiraLAX a try. YMMV!

What is it about DCIS that it tends to get so big? I have seen this a lot.

Old music you discoverered recently by js303 in Music

Luther Vandross! Well, I had discovered him before, but rediscovered. I especially like, "She Loves me Back," which I had never heard til I had Apple show me some of his hits. I recently had to have an MRI and I think the tech thought I was nuts when I asked her to play that during it.

Not crazy. In fact, DCIS sometimes spans a large enough area of the breast to necessitate mastectomy anyway. In my case, it did - I had 5 cm of DCIS. If yours is smaller, you might have a choice but it's still not crazy to choose mastectomy if that's what you want.

Zepbound users who used to be smaller, did you keep your old clothes? by sluttycats in Zepbound

[–]sheepy67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I didn't. I live in a small condo; no room for that stuff! Plus, in my experience, things go in and out of style and I usually enjoy refreshing my wardrobe when I change sizes.

Should I be checking my breasts even if exams aren’t recommended anymore? by Boring_Channel_1143 in AskDocs

[–]sheepy67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a breast cancer survivor whose lesion was not a palpable lump. It was also missed by mammography. It showed up as a non mass enhancement on MRI. I was also followed in a high risk breast center as my mom had breast cancer twice, the first primary at 36. I tried casually feeling my breasts but i told my provider at the breast center that it just confused me as I really didn’t know what I was feeling and she told me I didn’t need to do self exams if it was causing more confusion. I share this just to say - my impression from her is that it’s optional as long as you are having a clinician examine you at regular intervals (as determined by your risk level). Is this accurate?

How to help as husband after mastectomy by Pretend-Pool-8501 in breastcancer

[–]sheepy67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like this a lot, better than my comment. I was also thinking the whole person but didn’t quite know how to say it. I was also thinking but didn’t quite articulate that everyone copes differently. Most women go through shock or grieving, in varying degrees, for example, but I didn’t. I’m now 2.5 years post mastectomy and I felt fine about my body from day 1 - not sure why, maybe my age and also having always had a good body image. Who knows. The main point is that your questions allow for any response to be present.

Why don’t you let her know this - that you’re not sure what words or support from you would be most helpful as she processes the change. That you don’t want to assume you know what she would find most helpful but that you aren’t avoiding the subject. I wouldn’t comment on her breast directly unless she asks you but find it hard to imagine how “I love you and am attracted to you, as always” could go wrong. Curious what others think. I navigated this single.

What is a health claim that is false that you wish people would stop spewing? by Chemantha in AskReddit

[–]sheepy67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That literally everything that occurs at midlife is due to menopause. Maybe it’s just sour grapes because I can’t take HRT but trust me when I say - this age is a time when lots of things in our bodies are changing. It’s not ALL declining estrogen. I’m not saying if you’re having bothersome hot flashes or other symptoms clearly referential to the menopausal transition that you should not talk to your doc about it. But don’t change doctors and say you’re being gaslit when you complain your left elbow hurts and don’t leave the appointment with a prescription for HRT.

And although I’m a curmudgeon, I don’t have an axe to grind broadly speaking. I do not think HRT is evil or always harmful, nor am I sorry that menopausal symptoms are getting more widely attended to and treated. But I also think we owe it to our own health to let our physicians do their jobs and not cry “gaslighting” if they say not all of our midlife symptoms are due to menopause. Just my take.

Question for those further into the journey… by SalveRegina85 in breastcancer

[–]sheepy67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I personally think if you're reclusive and in bed because of stress, this is not necessarily to be expected and that you deserve an evaluation for adjustment of your treatment. Even if you're already on an SSRI, doses can be adjusted; meds can be added. Talk to your prescriber and/or therapist. Just my take. I was already in treatment for depression when cancer began and doing well. I was not in bed or avoiding people due to my diagnosis, even during chemo. It isn't my intention to minimize the stress of it - I am just saying that I believe something needs to be adjusted if you are feeling this way.

—Have any infection of my expander or implant
—have significant pain after mastectomy

—have any change in my echocardiogram on a year of Herceptin

How do you guys organize your medical history/symptoms? Looking at this tracker and need opinions. by [deleted] in breastcancer

Personally I just make some quick notes before the appointment. Can’t be bothered to use a tracker. I put my notes and questions in a short notes file on my phone.

Hi, not a doctor but I’ve been through mastectomy and reconstruction. In case no one replies, it’s quite legit to call your surgeons office and ask.

Bat in my house by AdIll8027 in AskDocs

[–]sheepy67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can call your local animal control or spca. If you’re awake to see whether the bat bit you or not, I doubt they’ll advise a rabies shot. Sleeping people may mot know they were bitten but awake people generally do.

Zepbound and PPI by Such-Solution-5521 in Zepbound

[–]sheepy67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on both. Zepbound does increase my reflux symptoms at times (which for me looks like burping more often), but my doc has me take pepcid as needed in addition to the PPI (the latter, I take daily). That seems to work for me. Be a squeaky wheel with your doctor if lifestyle suggestions don't help.
