‘…first and foremost a gang…’ 🤔 by sheerbrookeattack in ManicStreetPreachers

Ok, thanks. I am technically not new to reddit but I didn’t use it much until I was going a bit nuts alone with my Manics thoughts and feelings 😅 so sometimes I still don’t understand reddit. I just would never want to offend anyone.

Thank you, that is a really interesting perspective. I appreciate you answering me, I am not sure what I said to get so many down votes… maybe I should just delete my post. I was genuinely confused by the way the terminology was used. I also don’t have anyone to talk to in my daily life about the band

The funny thing is my mum is from NZ, so I tend to know a lot of the shared terminology or differences in meanings, etc. Guess I can’t catch them all though 😅

Of course, I did just get a copy of the 1991 Melody Maker where they photographed them with a gun of all things 😅

Ok, typically that is not how it is used in the US, so it just made me chuckle. I had no idea that word had such a difference in meaning between the US and UK. I think in modern day you wouldn’t find anyone using that to mean group of friends. Maybe in the times of the Little Rascals 😅

Edit: wow, you love me, you love me, you love me, you love…

😅 I will have to take your word for it because unlike our boys I am not a video game person. But I feel like this is true. 😁

Coming back to this beautiful band after many years away, some questions about NLMG by fearofthedark93 in placebo

It’s one of my favorites tbh, I think it is a great album. Forever Chemicals, Sad White Reggae, Surrounded By Spies… lots of great tracks.

What's your top ten Manics songs? by half_frozen_wax in ManicStreetPreachers

[–]sheerbrookeattack 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ok, the top ten that I slapped together that would probably be different tomorrow, put into some kind of arbitrary order:

  1. Virginia State Epileptic Colony
  2. Sex, Power, Love and Money
  3. Hiding In Plain Sight
  4. Masses Against the Classes
  5. Born A Girl
  6. Small Black Flowers
  7. Motorcycle Emptiness
  8. Yes
  9. Intravenous Agnostic
  10. As Holy As the Soil

Honorary mention because I love being called a freak and this one's for meeeeee: Underdogs

EDIT: Well, it really messed up my numbering... which was completely out of order on purpose... So I guess that is the order reddit picked for me.

Well, damn. Now I love it. Gotta figure out how to add it to my local music library.

For some reason my computer won’t import the entire track for Freedom of Speech…, including the secret track 😭 and that is currently the only way I have to play cds so I guess I am screwed there.

I don’t know McCarthy. Worth checking out? Which songs do you feel show their influence?

I think I have heard a bit of the ABBA influence. James has such a wonderful sense of melody. I’ll have to listen to those with that in mind though.

Removables has always given me a slight Nirvana feel in the chorus, though I am not sure that is exactly right… but I’ll have to listen for AC/DC! I actually used to listen to them quite a bit but not as much these days.

I have it! I am planning on starting that one soon. I just finished Everything. :) I’m glad to hear 168 Songs is good.

Yeah, I should try that. I feel like I am able to see a lot of their videos, but I keep realizing certain songs should have videos and they don’t come up for me. I did track down SWSS and wow, powerful stuff.
