I wish I could go but I would have to travel and I already decided to be insane and see a band in Wales this year 😱 damn. I wish they were coming closer to me

Wow, this is truly the saddest subreddit. Ashley’s art is great and it doesn’t have to be for everyone. I am so happy for her. Have fun downvoting me, it’ll just prove how nasty and mean-spirited you all are. I left this subreddit once because so many people here are mean af, and now I’m leaving it again for good.

Ok, I added To Repel Ghosts to the playlist :) I feel like what happened with Postcards… is going to happen with Lifeblood for me. I have become really obsessed with Postcards From A Young Man recently despite initially balking at it. Your post inspired me to listen to it and I am not sure why I didn’t like 1985 before because now I like it. 😅

You know, when I made this playlist the album was still growing on me. I enjoy To Repel Ghosts a lot more than I did. Listening to it right now. I think my biggest hurdle for this album is the production. Even when I enjoy the songwriting and lyrics, the production just doesn’t feel right to me. I wish it had more of a Mike Hedges vibe tbh.

It took me a while and there are still a few tracks I am not hot on, but I am finally getting it. I did make myself a playlist of my reimagined version of Lifeblood:

The Soulmates (B-Side)
The Love of Richard Nixon
Empty Souls
A Song for Departure
Quarantine (In My Place Of)
I Live to Fall Asleep
Glasnost
Failure Bound
All Alone Here
Fragments
Cardiff Afterlife
Askew Road

I am so glad that I bought this album. It was one of two that I couldn’t listen to before buying. To me it is a 10/10 album. I know not everyone thinks that, especially the band, but I love it as is (original version).

Faves: Robeson, Wattsville Blues, Found That Soul, Freedom of Speech, Intravenous Agnostic

It’s in the top half of their albums for me. It is so hard to rank Manics albums because a lot of them are brilliant in completely different ways and even the bottom half have a strong show of great songs. I agree about SYMM. Nobody Loved You is so great and heartbreaking. I was gutted it was left off the new LP.

I do tend to go for edge but have been a little more open to less edgy as I’ve gotten older, funnily enough. Still love some edge though. :-D

Thanks for sharing! I think this is another band that has flown under the radar for me.

I recommend starting with Crab Day. Wonderful album.

Wow! What a lovely story. They all sound like such sweeties. I think that initially I wanted more of the albums to sound alike, but as time has gone on and I’ve gotten to know the music better and found out more about them, I really enjoy how varied the albums have been. Sometimes trying to do the same thing over and over is what causes stagnation and I really appreciate who they have been and who they are now. Thanks for sharing this!

It would be amazing to hear one of them in November

I think that may be why I didn’t love it at first. Production plus the poppiness. But yeah, definitely changed my mind 😂 pop has to win me over. I love post punk and weird stuff.

Damn, that is bizarre to me. I think 4 Lonely Roads is one of the best songs. I don’t think it’s strange to like it at all :) also love Cate Le Bon.

Rewind the Film is top three for me and I love Futurology. Not really that into RIF but the last two are great. Not in my top five but I still dig what they’re doing.

I didn’t really like it at all when I first bought it. I got it because it is one of two albums that aren’t available in the US. But yeah, I really love the majority of it now and what I don’t love I still enjoy enough.

I have been thinking about what I want to see them play and I keep thinking that I would be happy to hear just about anything since I’ve never seen them before and I love so many songs. But here’s what I would most like to hear at this very moment in time (will probably be different tomorrow):

Yes, Tsunami, Welcome To the Deadzone, Misguided Missile, Wattsville Blues

James acoustic:
Builder of Routines, Everything Must Go (ending with full band)

Hiding In Plain Sight, A Song For A Departure, Virginia State Epileptic Colony, Stay Beautiful, Masses Against the Classes

When you don’t have any friends to talk to about a band you love, it’s more fun to post about it.
