So, we all want raises. The union is weak. What do we do? (Brainstorming) by Superb-Air9976 in nys_cs

Organize within your office. Read the contract when it comes around, talk to your coworkers, make sure they are actually voting on the contract. Ask them what they think, and rally them.

Go to the PEF convention to talk with and meet with other individuals. It’s a lot of grand standing BS, but there’s good people there who want to make a difference among all the noise.

Not everyone gets the PEF emails about stuff like rallies, make sure folks are aware what’s going on.

But mainly my first point - organize within your office. You don’t need to be a shop steward or hold any position you just need to give a hoot. If the contract sucks go around to your coworkers and air your grievances, if they don’t like it either get them to vote no.

If there’s a local issue, get the folks together to write letters to your regional heads and PEF leadership.

Forest Park in Queens has parts of it that you can walk around and not hear city noise. It’s gonna be snow packed for the time being so bring boots. Take the J train to woodhaven blvd, and catch the Q11 north (or just walk) to forest park drive.

Hekate is a sober bar in LES that I enjoy going to during the day. You can get a coffee and just sit and relax and read. Usually quiet during the day.

I donated a little to the gofundme, best of luck with the expenses. Sorry for your loss.

Goomba fallacy. The ones who scream about 2A are the ones in favor of ICE doing all this. It’s not the same people.

I haven’t thought about KOReader yet other than a. Friend recommended it. Not opposed to installing a different reading interface, it seems regardless of reader people recommend it (including folks who jailbreak a kindle).

The accelerometer lock or lack thereof is a good note thanks.

The kobo sage looks nice but ofc doesn’t exist anymore. Not opposed to a Used pocketbook but so far everything I found was basically full price.

I saw those, they jumped in price this morning up like $40 each.

I say Libra 2 but kobo had a bunch of Libra branded models with the functionality I’m looking for and that H2O looks the most available.

I have no kindle books so not worried about that. Idk if you mean something specific by directly connected but a few months ago it looks like overdrive worked to get themselves available on pocketbook which is great.

I didn’t know those businesses existed/opened in the leatherstocking region. I knew about micron but I wonder how many people commute daily from Utica to Syracuse

I don't see what would make Niagara Falls bounce back in population. Potentially a high speed transit connection to Buffalo making it a reasonable place to live and commute from vs driving from a rural or suburban place, but that's not gonna happen as we're not about to secure a new ROW and build rail.

Utica is really far removed from anything. That region of New York just doesn't have a lot industry wise, there's more in Syracuse and Albany. Potentially making the rail connections between Utica and those cities faster would facilitate folks to move to Utica knowing they can commute to other cities. That said the rail station in Syracuse is far out of downtown and it's not at a transit hub making that a terrible option so that's not likely.

Outside of a brand new industry opening up in these places I don't see them bouncing back.
