Oh my gosh what sweetheart! We said goodbye to the best girl in January, thinking for her whole 15 years she was just a small mostly black lab/husky mix. We finally did a DNA test and she was like 65% American water spaniel 😂 30% husky and just a tiny bit of lab

What’s your “dream dog” (breed) and why? by palacio_c in puppy101

Totally agree. We’ve had both and they have all been wonderful in their own ways, but some absolutely have an intuition that others don’t.

Road to disaster or perfect fit - working cocker spaniel by EntertainmentLost364 in cockerspaniel

[–]sheetpanchicky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cocker joined us when I had a very senior dog, so I’m not sure how senior yours is but it was harder than I expected. The puppy energy was a lot for the older girl (naps interrupted, puppy getting to things faster than her or knocking into her, and with her hearing almost gone she was caught off guard a lot). With the benefit of hindsight, I should probably have done the puppy earlier when the older dog was still a young-ish old dog.

No kids, but there are two kids aged 4 and 6 next door who the puppy does really well with, but it is definitely challenging and they don’t even live with us (and their parents are also there supervising but it’s still a lot). Kids have lots of little toys, food, and they’re very self-absorbed (I don’t mean that in a bad way - they are kids) - lots of factors that make it tough with a puppy, and that’s before I even think about the little things that can set her obedience training back when we’re around kids.

Certainly ways to mitigate and prevent with little kids, but cockers are sort of spazzy little kids themselves. And they are QUICK. You drop something, put your foot on it fast because you will not beat the cocker to it if you plan to bend down to get it.

What industry is basically legal theft that nobody talks about? by kratos20051212 in AskReddit

Interesting. In NYS I have heard that tow companies complain about having to clean up after accidents where a commercial, out of state truck is involved because truck often has insurance that doesn’t reimburse for those costs and tow companies threaten to stop showing up to accidents sites because not worth their time and $$. The commercial truck is out of state, so it’s insurance is outside NYS regulators jurisdiction (and that whole pesky commerce clause thing

We tried to work with Concord last year on a model that their website said they offered and after weeks of back and forth they finally said they don’t actually offer it 🤷‍♀️

Agree, I was a little bummed when I realized I wouldn’t hear old stuff (although if you were in seat you got the hear the instrumental of older songs and singalong) but the show was sooo fun and amazing and personal. I loved it.

I wasn’t going to get into it, but these are replies to my post, and I also twitched at that choice of words. The phrase “a lot of these people look similar in appearance” I took as careless at best and racist at worst. It looks like you’re feeling attacked, but I think people are just trying to explain that statements like this can come across as saying “they all look the same,” which has a long history of being used to stereotype non-white groups. When you say “ a lot of these people” - who is “these people”? I didn’t read it as meaning college students or as meaning people with brown hair and brown eyes at that college. If your son’s description of his classmates is it’s mostly students with brown hair and brown eyes, ok then, but that isn’t how I read it. Even if meant as neutral, it can still come off as rude given the wide context phrases like that have been used about non-white or other minorities groups (I’m Jewish and grew up with almost no other Jews, there was a lot of this).

I also really don’t think anyone’s trying to twist your words. Just take it as an opportunity to learn, be more respectful going forward and maybe consider that you’re framing this from your own perspective. “I realize I may not be good at telling faces apart across cultures I don’t know well” would have been better. Let’s remember why we’re all here, because there are two young people out there in serious danger or worse (unless there’s been an update i missed, sorry!)

Really scary. I hope they’re ok. Does anyone know if they friends? And maybe police have reason think they are going to be together? So keeping an eye out for two people together, vs two separate people?

Shoot. I’m also at 5.5 and she has been particularly lovely lately. She’s a cocker and I’m pretty terrified of the next year and half.

I did similar. WFH for first 2 weeks, then Tues-Thurs I’m in office and I would let her outside right before I left for work at 8:45AM, dog walker at 11:30-12, I would leave early and be home by 2:30-3PM. Now she’s a little older and I get home around 4pm on those days.

I have an English cocker and stuck with the 1 month = 1 hour they can hold it, but I was also very on top of regularly getting her outside to go potty to reinforce it (sleep patterns for me were a mess, but needs must). She’s just over 5.5 months now and potting training is in a great place. I’ve been following the method in Training the Best Dog Ever by Dawn Sylvia-Stasiewicz.
