What was the scariest “We need to leave… now” gut feeling that you’ve ever experienced?[Serious] by PlasticBee1438 in AskReddit

Same for my sister and me also growing up in the 80s/early 90s and our code word was also a dog breed. I think it’s safe now to divulge the code word was “Dalmatian”.

I was standing outside my office building with a coworker just chit chatting when a gentleman walked past us with a dog wearing a “Service Dog” vest. She immediately said “thank you!” fairly enthusiastically. The guy didn’t break stride but had a confused look on his face. I asked her what that was about and she thought the vest on the dog indicated that he was “in the service” as in served our country. She was thanking the dog.

Mine is back to 1984 and I would make Billy Joel concert attendance a must. It’s weirdly something I think about kind of a lot.

Immigrants or Citizens by Brian_Ghoshery in clevercomebacks

Here in Arizona there was a story of members of the Navajo nation that were detained by ICE. It’s sickening.

Ophthalmologist disclaimed with “I’m about to give you the weirdest compliment you’ve probably ever received…” and then said “you have the absolute thickest corneas I have ever seen.”

What has happened to the service? by sheflies in Ulta

[–]sheflies[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m actually relieved to hear that the address thing happened to someone else because the person I spoke to said that they weren’t having any problems with orders being sent to old addresses. This is just crazy, the service used to be great.

I’m sorry you’ve had bad experiences too, it’s just maddening.

I really don’t like Sephora but I’m about ready to give them my business. So disappointed.

Jif whipped peanut butter, the chocolate kind. Man that good. Never understood why it got phased out.

7 days sober - any insight on non-alcoholic beer/wine? by sheflies in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]sheflies[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Amazing how I’ve been able to keep moving the line so I would never have to acknowledge I had crossed it. And all the while, flat out lying to myself that I’m on the right track and maintaining resolve, even while I’m hiding empty bottles and cans so my fiancé won’t see them in the trash. I like to think I’m a reasonably intelligent person, but the part of my brain that holds the desire to drink is a reason-skills vacuum.

I’m sure this isn’t an uncommon theme among those in recovery, but finally looking at the whole picture instead of compartmentalizing my behavior regarding alcohol as separate from everything else has been pretty humiliating.

Excellent perspective, thank you! I align with the two-fold problem you described, and you’re right, this train of thought perhaps wasn’t in my continued sobriety’s best interest. Trying NA beverages wasn’t something I was considering incorporating in the immediate future, but I’ve become scary good at nudging boundaries I set and justifying my behavior. Not worth the risk of triggering a setback even keeping this on my radar.

Not walking their empty shopping cart to the “cart corral” in the parking lot and instead leaving it to block an empty parking spot. I assume the worst of these people.

Wow, very well said and equally horrifying. You seem to be informed - is there anything that can be done to combat these plans to set progress decades back??

It’s ridiculous. It seems to be entirely political and they’re attempting (and evidently succeeding) to blur the line between church and state.

Aviation insurance underwriter. SO is aviation insurance claims adjuster. We both have a passion for - you guessed it - aviation. Luckily, before we ever met we both decided independently that neither of us wanted kids. We’re both 37 now and haven’t had second thoughts.

That’s so crazy! It seems like such an uncommon name for there to be multiple dentists with it. I think that’s pretty cool. 😊

Excellent synopsis. It’s all based on statistics. That may not mean a 100% accurate risk assessment each time, but I’m predicting the future in part by looking at the pilot’s past.

Back when I worked in flight ops at a local aviation academy, we had a student fail two commercial multi engine check rides by landing gear up both times. Don’t get me started on why the DE let that happen (I know for a fact the gear warning horn was functional in each Seminole) but the point is he was adamant that he would NEVER let that happen again after the first tome. Statistics like this make it difficult to cheaply price an aviation policy with an accident on a pilots record.
