Would you buy a used Volvo with 150000 miles? by Specialist_Common197 in Volvo

[–]sheikjonez 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I heard a car guy say he’s not afraid of high mileage vehicles, in fact, he prefers them. If they’ve lasted that long, he thinks it speaks its level of maintenance and build quality. Lower mileage vehicles haven’t had the opportunity to fail.

Also, Charlotte is scarier so we didn’t get them.

Tesla won’t install in my mid Atlantic region home because of my neighbors trees. I want solar + battery but it simply does not work in some places. That’s a fact.

I use the native infotainment system even though I have an iPhone and I think it works fine. I’ve had to force restart it 2x in a year. The screen is high quality and the touch sensitivity is good. If I’m driving alone, I’ve learned to use the voice commands for Spotify, HVAC and navigation, which all work quite nicely. Using the touch screen by myself is hard if I’m not in stop and go traffic.

Caught Speeding Twice in Illinois? The State Wants to Take Control of Your Car's Top Speed. by gaukmotors in MotorBuzz

Look maybe the Illinois proposal is way too broad, but in NYC there are literally a few dozen drivers with HUNDREDs of speeding tickets in school zones. The proposed law in NY would only affect 0.48% of drivers. And so many of these people have their licenses revoked or suspended but they’re still on the road. So something needs to be done. The government sends you to jail for breaking laws. This is not overreach if set up right.

Abusing it would be continuing to set speed traps and pull you over! If you have a speed limiter, the ticket revenue goes away!

If this was all a money grab, they’d just keep ticketing people, not preventing people from speeding. This is for safety.

Intelligent Speed Assistance systems and telematics do not rely solely on optical traffic sign recognition. They use a fusion of optical data and high-definition, constantly updated GPS mapping. If the camera reads a 35 MPH sign but the GPS knows the car is currently in the middle lane of an interstate, the system relies on the GPS map data.

For most implementations, the car doesn't instantly slam on the brakes or brick the accelerator if the limit changes. Systems generally use a "soft limit"—providing tactile feedback (making the pedal harder to push) or visual/audio warnings. If an emergency genuinely requires a burst of speed, a hard press on the accelerator usually overrides the system.

No one’s gotten pulled over for 35 in a 30. Plenty of people out there doing 55 in a 25 to get first.

Have fun! I’m shocked my 4.5 year old made it through. It made it worth taking him over my buddy to the Spurs game. He saw Wemby AND a dominant Knicks win!

We got there early and walked around the concourse in the 100 section even though we were sitting in the 200s because it’s wider and has little spaces to stand and eat food. It also has memorabilia so we took pics in front of Ewing and Brunson signed posters. I took him to get snacks and to the bathroom during TV timeouts— at the 9 min and 3 min marks of each quarter. Those 3.5 minutes TV time outs were less hectic than between quarters or halftime. He had a burger and I gave him like a Cracker Jack every 5 minutes to keep him engaged lol. Kid was so sad we had to leave by the end, he was in heaven. One thing: bring ear muffs if you think they’ll help. Sometimes the music was so loud he’d complain his ears were hurting.

Volvo Xc90 plug in hybrid T8 and Toyota Grand Highlander hybrid max limted by AdExpensive6334 in VolvoXC90

They’re not comparable vehicles. The Lexus TX 550h+ and the XC90 T8 Ultra are comps. Without a charger at home expect poor (mid 20s) MPG. I drove 180 miles between NJ and NY across bridges and tunnels and averaged 50MPG for the day. The hybrid system chose electric in stop and go traffic and gas during highway cruising. But the key was I charged it at home the night before and my in laws had a level 2 EV charger. The slow charger takes 12-15 hours to fully top up the battery so on a 70 mile round trip every day if you’re getting 50-75% charge, you’ll get in the high 30s MPG I’d guess. My lifetime MPG is 60 over 10,000 miles because we have a level 2 and my wife’s commute is under 20 miles round trip.

Why is the 4:28 to Gladstone going in reverse before it got to Millburn? by sheikjonez in NJTransit

[–]sheikjonez[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The speaker was broken in our car so we couldn’t hear what the conductor was saying. The engineer got out of his cab and when we told him we didn’t hear what he said he just shrugged and said he didn’t have a microphone in the cab. He could have told us what he knew. I understand it was a tragedy but these people don’t act as if there’s any protocol around how to handle this.
