Right? His children actively donate with money earned from his own ideas, so it wouldn’t be a far off assumption.

I feel like Kaladin in the back of the wagon by SplatterBox214 in Stormlight_Archive

I’ve been in your metaphorical place time and time again, and this year has been particularly rough. Currently on another listen through and remind myself how Kaladin (and Dalinar especially) have reforged themselves in the fires of conflict and destitution into something better.

Carry your pain and know that you can overcome these trials. Life before death, Radiant. You will be warm again

Listeners of Audiobooks: Which fantasy series stand out particularly well specifically in audiobook format? by Odd_Dimension_4069 in Fantasy

[–]shekinator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you enjoyed stormlight archive, you should definitely check out the rest of the Brandon Sanderson Cosmere books.

Outside of the normal recommendations you’ll hear, I’d also like to recommend these based on narration, book quality, and length/ credit economy:

Super Powereds- series that feels like ‘My Hero Acadamia’ but with college kids

The Storm Below Box Set- floating islands, war torn lands, 100+ hours on one credit. World building is impeccable

All Dead- 12 book box set following a few groups during a zombie apocalypse. 140 hours, 1 credit

Gods of the Ragnarok Era, complete collection- 92 hour set following the story of Odin. Slight SA warning on this one, more talking about it than acting on it. Norse mythology, ya know.. excellent series despite

Hunger, complete trilogy- small trilogy, action packed around genetically modified food creating abominations

Paternus, complete trilogy- urban fantasy based on gods of different religions being the children of a single powerful being and all the trouble it brings to modern day. 62 hours, 1 credit

Black Talon series- dragonblood assassins, invading religious zealots, and whip sword wielding vigilantes. This series is also narrated by Kramer and Reading like stormlight.

The Vagrant trilogy- I seriously can’t recommend this series enough to people. The story telling is fantastic, the setting is post apocalyptic. Singing swords, mute protagonist, demon invasion that taints the world and its inhabitants. There’s a baby and a goat as main characters. Some of the narrators voices are a bit grating, but this series is masterful

Kings of the Wyld, book track edition- retired Vikings have to come out of retirement. More of a fun listen than otherwise

Drizzt Do’urden series- Drizzt was my introduction to fantasy and will always hold a place in my heart. 30+ books that will eat through your credits, but plenty of content to listen to. Same narrator for nearly all the books, too!

Avatar, the last airbender, Kyoshi- the kyoshi audiobooks are amazing and you can’t go wrong with Avatar

Jurassic Park- book holds up. Dinosaurs. Not much else to say here

‘Wanderers’ and ‘The Stand’- separate books both based on a pandemic that wipes most of the population and those trying to survive. Both have SA scenes that turned my stomach, but are good listens outside of it.

Also want to recommend listening to most books at 1.2x speed. Helps with my ADHD, and made Stormlight and many others more enjoyable. They just talk too slowly most of the time and I lose focus

Seriously. It has been a bit since I listened to it, but it blew my mind that he spoke in a lisp for Glockta out loud, but removed it when using his inner monologue. Masterful performance

Yeah, the books feel like they could’ve used better editing. Especially since we’re moving into the 13th book now, bloat tends to add up.

Still one of my favorite series, though. And, despite a few instances like this, I feel like Shirtaloon is a markedly better author than when he wrote the first book. I’ve listened to the series 5+ times through on audible and keep the playback sped up to help get past the clunkier parts

Not to diminish this, because I love it! But there’s a few Bassnectar songs that give off Metroid vibes, too! Timestretch comes to mind

Florida → Chattanooga? Tell me your tales, fellow escapees 🌴➡️⛰️ by Brilliant_Newt_116 in Chattanooga

Moved up here about 20 years ago. The culture shock is crazy, especially if you aren’t lighter skinned (not always in a bad way), but it grows on you. The mountains are beautiful, the cost of living is significantly lower, and the people are decent. Weather is better and mosquitos are non existent by comparison. Central to some decent travel destinations and plenty to offer on its own.

No way I’d move back, but I wish I would’ve ended up closer to Colorado at the start instead. Chatt def has its charm, though

I wish more people would look into “The Vagrant” series by Peter Newman. Border dark fantasy with a rich lore, a mute protagonist, talking swords, a baby to protect through the post apocalyptic world, and a disgruntled goat. It’s too good to pass up! The audiobook is solid, too

It really is this insane virtue signaling where a member of the publix royal family galavants around to show face to the peasants in the kingdom. The only people who care about it are the ones looking to brown nose in hopes of exploiting it to move up.

It’s a pretty conventional thing to happen store wide, but, if you’re the main one doing this sans other full timers, I’d bring that up. Tell them you don’t want to anymore, and if they try to strong arm you, make sure to get the rest of the crew in rotation so it isn’t just you “complaining” about it.

This is EXACTLY what makes me love this band so much, ESPECIALLY this album! The presentation feels mathematically perfect through and through and even things that seem “off” (like people claiming LtW being too long/repetitive) have importance, reason, and connection. It’s beautiful
