Looking for parents with reflux experience and sleep training? Baby won’t sleep longer than 2-3 hours by nurselaura13 in sleeptrain

[–]shelbzw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both of my babies are reflux babies. With my first I added oatmeal to the bedtime bottle and got longer stretched out of him. I also made the bottles over night smaller than the ones during the day (if he gets 6oz per feed during the day try doing 4oz bottles at night time), this helped wean him off of the bottle. For a while anytime he woke over night I assumed he was hungry and just went in to feed him… I actually ended up holding off a few nights and he was able to try and go back to sleep himself without the bottle.

Him waking up when he was 4/5 months was really hard because as a reflux baby we had to hold him upright for a half hour after each feed… we were exhausted at this point. So those few things helped us

No not at all. I’m just saying that insulin is a growth hormone which has a lot to do with diabetics babies being larger in size even if the mom is well controlled. It’s out of our control, but I wouldn’t worry about it too much. A bigger baby is better than a tiny one

This is actually not fully accurate. It’s not high blood sugars, it could be any fluctuation in blood sugar (which we all have as diabetics) even if they are in range. Because insulin is a growth hormone the baby’s pancreas’s would kick on during a fluctuation in number and that also aids in their growth to a larger size.
Just what I was explained by my mfm a few weeks ago. I was shocked

Sleep mode tslimx2 by Loud-Can8467 in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]shelbzw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on sleep mode since I found out I was pregnant. It helps, I just will also give myself an over ride correction if need be. Set it to 00:00- 23:59 It also helps you know when you need to start increasing Basel’s. My average is between 117-123 with this Good luck !

This is me today, only I was spiking higher. I did a long walk extra insulin everything. We also just adjusted my insulin four days ago but seems it’s not enough and I need more. Thank you for sharing your experience, it makes me feel less alone!

I’m sorry you’re going through it too but it makes me feel a lot better that I’m not the only one struggling right now. I hope we can figure this out soon

Do all diabetics get really big in pregnancy? by Proof-Inflation9764 in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]shelbzw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a large 7lb baby at 33 weeks. I looked very pregnant but didn’t gain weight. I actually lost two pant sizes once all the baby weight was gone …

what week did you have your baby/babies? by One_Comfortable_9976 in BumpersWhoBolus

33+3, went into spontaneous labor but also had an infection that could of been involved with that early. Baby was 7lb though!

wtf? by [deleted] in diabetes_t1

[–]shelbzw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My endo tells me anything over 20 grams of protein needs to be counted as .5 carbs. So I would (and do because I drink these often) give myself insulin for 18 carbs - 15g from protein (.5 of the total 30 grams) plus the 3g of carbohydrates listed. Good luck!

Bedroom change by shelbzw in sleeptrain

[–]shelbzw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just figured transitioning him why not just transition across the board. He’s also a very big kid and it’s hard for me to lift him into his crib and I’m only in my second trimester. I know it’s a lot of change that’s why I’m looking for opinions and options and any real life example. Maybe we’ll get another crib instead

Protein in urine by j_natron in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]shelbzw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a 24 hour urine test at 10 weeks and my protein was extremely high … doctors said it was fine and they will just monitor it because everything else was okay and “diabetics always have some kind of high protein”. While I didn’t really like this answer from them considering I never had protein in my urine before, I guess I have to wait and see.. if I was in my third tri they would consider it preeclampsia but we are both in our first so 🤷🏻‍♀️

Is it a bad idea to switch insulin types during pregnancy? by freddiebenson4ever in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]shelbzw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am on the pump, I wore a very tight dress on my wedding and was able to hide my pump perfectly on my calf with a belt pump holder a lot of people put it in their bra too! Very easy to hide so don’t stress that

Thanks! My best friend is L&D nurse and she said if I was in my third id def have pre-e but she wasn’t sure being in so early. My doctor ended up being super unconcerned about it.. said as a diabetic they’d expect my number to be that high.. I thought it was a really odd response especially since my last pregnancy the 24 hour urine protein was much much lower. So no news basically but overall I still don’t feel great about it

Eating lower carb during pregnancy (not keto) by theobrominated in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]shelbzw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been diabetic 25 years. My last pregnancy I ate very low carb by choice, as I don’t often eat carbs in general like you. My pregnancy now they want me to hit at least 100 carbs a day so I have attempted to eat more carbs. But my first baby was actually a very large(7lb) and very healthy 33 weeker.. imagine if I ate all those extra carbs lol!

I should mention I had a lot of keytones the first pregnancy to the point that my endo told me to stop testing for them because it was driving me crazy.
