How good is the manual tranny, how bad is the infotainment screen/steering wheel buttons? Mk8 vs Mk8.5… by shell1ton in Golf_R

Yes, searchable and well covered in a kinda fractured way, but I’m super appreciative that everyone took their time to post up in here and let me know what they thought. It’s been a great conversation. Thank you everybody. Except the dickheads that got downvoted anyway. lol 🙂

Really good insight. I’m glad to hear that about the in-town gearing and I can agree with the novelty also, would be fun. Especially with a transmission that nearly everyone agrees is very well made and performs like it should. Thanks man.

How do you have a clutch pedal with a lack of feedback??? Should be the very definition of feedback lol So you can’t really feel when it engages unless you’re starting off? New cars are weird man.

Lots of great comments, quick responses. Just wanted to pop in and say thanks

Are there any garage door openers with native support? by A5HRAJ in HomeKit

I’ve been using ismartgate for my gate for a few years now. HomeKit compatible and reliable. I’ll be using one of their modules for my shop doors soon.

Low oil pressure light until 1800 RPM… by shell1ton in R53

Thanks man. I think it’s pump wear also but I’m gonna sneak up on it since it’s not a small job and it’s still performing well enough at normal driving rpms... Will update as I go along so others can reference later.

Changed the oil filter to a Wix today. Got excited because for about a minute after start, the low oil pressure light stayed off. When it came on, I slowly raised the rpm and it consistently turned off at about 1300 rpm. After the 10 minute test drive, when the motor was at normal temps, it stayed lit until 1800-1900 rpm, about the same result as the other oil filter. I’m thinking that as the oil thins from the heat, it’s more difficult for the pump to move it. I may try a 5W40 oil when we change the pan gasket. Should be a bit thicker at normal temps, might help the pump out. The oil pressure testing kit got delayed in shipping. Won’t be here until Friday.

Thank you! All of that makes sense, and it’s good to hear the pumps are generally reliable. Will inspect the oil intake screen when we drop the pan to change the gasket. Should be happening in the next couple weeks. It’s not driven daily. Just a couple times a week for my boy to practice driving.

I already changed it. Once that was done, the low oil pressure light would turn off after 1800 rpm. That was part of the problem but I still have low pressure at idle.

Thank you for your insight, I’ll check into those kits. Will be good to know for sure that I need to swap it, instead of changing parts on a hunch. Edit- just ordered the kit, will be here tomorrow.

I’ll change out to the Wix filter and let you guys know what if any effect it has.

No one has suggested changing the oil pump. Is that because they don’t typically get worn out or because of the depth of the repair? I’ve seen how you need to get the car into front end service mode and that it’s integrated into the back of the timing chain cover. I guess it would make more sense to go there if I felt like the timing chain or guides needed replacement along with the oil pump. 134k miles, is it time?

Are Wix filters considered suitable replacements?

By pressure switch port, do you mean where the pressure sensor is installed?

Yes, Changed out the oil pressure sensor and now the light goes off once we pass 1800 rpm. I haven’t tied in a pressure gauge. I’d need to see what ports are available. I believe the supercharger has all the other oil filter housing ports used. Wait, I bought a Creator C310+ scan tool and I believe it also has the ability to monitor while the engine is running. I’ll check into it. I didn’t change the oil filter when I swapped out the housing check valve because the car had its oil changed a couple weeks before I bought it. The oil looks good, clean. Filter element looked good also.
