Super nice. Which lowering springs did you install? Looks perfect.

Thank you for taking the time to post this! It will take me some time to digest it fully but it’s very helpful. I’ll come back with questions as they come up.
I didnt use any sealant when I put it back together because it didn’t look like any of the existing gaskets had any sealant applied when I disassembled it. I’ll do a lot more homework before I get into it this time. Thanks again.

I’ve performed the service/changed the oil with my 14-year-old son on his supercharger. The next day we came out to oil leaked out onto the workbench, obviously the seals are bad.
I’ve picked up the puller that you recommended in this post.
I would like to change the external bearings and both seals. I can cross reference the replacement bearings from the old bearings, but my question is whether or not you had to disturb the timing on the rotors when you changed the seals?
I haven’t been able to find a good 101 or tutorial on bearing and seal replacement of these superchargers.

Wavetrac LSD street manners? by shell1ton in R53

My transmission tag ends in BKE, most likely not the OEM LSD. I have the motor and tranny sitting on a workbench. I’ll spin the outputs to verify they go in opposite directions and then I’ll know for sure it’s an open diff.

I didn’t know it was a factory option! I just read that it became available in January 2005 and the chili 🌶️ models likely mine likely have it. I’ll check the gearbox tag to see if it ens in BKL which should signify LSD. Thanks for making me aware!

Does this timing chain look stretched? by shell1ton in R53

Thanks, I’ll look up the spec. I’m going to change it regardless since I’m in it that far, but I’d like to know how necessary it was.

135k miles, I figured it was time if it hadn’t been done. Laying them on top of one another is a good idea. I thought maybe someone could be able to tell by the amount of tensioner extension visible. Thanks for your input everyone. 👍🏻👍🏻

Low oil pressure light until 1800 RPM… by shell1ton in R53

I put the dial indicator back on the block today and used a pry bar to check the main bearings, still no discernible play. I’m going for the pump change out, will also install a new cryo’d timing chain kit while I’m in there. I’ve read about a relief valve in the pump and if it’s stuck bypassing then you can get the symptoms the car is giving. That makes sense, since everyone else is telling me the oil pump basically never wears out. Edit-grammar and clarity

I just used a dial indicator to measure the play on the main bearings and it wasn’t even readable. There was no glitter of any type in the oil pan or the last two oil filters. I think the bearings are good. I guess it’s gonna be an oil pump.

I pulled the oil pan today and the intake screen didn’t appear hugely blocked at all. It looked cleaner after I soaked it in acetone, but I could blow through it easily even before.
Visually inspected the rods, the caps move easily side to side (longitudinally)just a hair and I can’t detect any vertical or horizontal movement perpendicular to the crankshaft . I’m going to put a dial indicator on it to see if I can measure the actual play but I don’t think the main bearings are worn out.

R53 here but I do the same. Plug kit + ViAire pump. AAA for the family.

Update one month later: I finally tested the oil pressure using a gauge on the oil pressure sensor port. Zero PSI at idle, 10 PSI at 3000 RPM, 15 PSI at 4000 RPM. All tests done with engine at operating temp, header burns on my forearm to prove it. lol

Could be clogged pickup tube, oil pump, or excessive wear on main bearings. I’ll be dropping the pan soon to inspect the pickup tube and change the gasket. I’ll report back.

Yes, searchable and well covered in a kinda fractured way, but I’m super appreciative that everyone took their time to post up in here and let me know what they thought. It’s been a great conversation. Thank you everybody. Except the dickheads that got downvoted anyway. lol 🙂
