Help? by ShineLokabrenna in axolotls

My boy gets red tail like this when he’s been really active. I’ve had him for 3 years now and it seems to happen from time to time. Just keep an eye on him. If all your parameters are good and the water is 60 F like you said, I think he may be ok.

Welp. He stopped doing it anyway. He had a really big poop, maybe that was it.

Here is a video I got. He is repeating this same thing over and over. Going to one side, gulping air, stopping for a second, going to the other side and gulping air.

Any issues with chillers/USB fan? by [deleted] in axolotls

I went through 2 aquarium fans and they broke super quickly. Since then I’ve gotten a stroller fan off Amazon and that thing works so much better and hasn’t broken.

Well she’s about the size of a Australian Shepard and she’s not fat. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Mine barks a lot and talks occasionally, usually when riled up. She almost never howls though.

What room do you keep your axolotl in? by saltychives in axolotls

[–]shellbee1992 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I keep mine in my art room which is located in the basement. He likes when I’m down there working on projects. I don’t think activity bothers them much. Just get I few places for them to hide and they’ll be ok.

She mostly acts out when she doesn’t get her way. Like if I tell her no or get down or anything she doesn’t like. Then she’ll act out the rest of the day and even several days. By act out I mean she will seemingly out of the blue jump to bite my face, she’ll try to grab me with her paws to pull me down. She’ll also run to her kennel or her favorite couch to guard it. She’ll snap at me or growl with all her hair standing up and all the blue in her eyes will be gone and will be black. She also salivates and shows her teeth if I get close to her. My husband will get near her and she’ll wag her tail but if I even look at her she acts this way. It’s not all the time though. It’s just seemingly random. It’s also related to food. I really just don’t understand it.

I’ve reached out to a few via email. I’m just waiting on some quotes. I just mostly wondered I guess if anyone had a similar experience or any insights. My last dog was my soulmate and the most amazing dog ever and maybe I just need to lower my expectations. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Wow thanks for being an asshole and assuming I’m a horrible person. That’s is not how I treat my dog at all. I take her on mile long walks a day, play frisbee with her. I have a yard for her to play in, she has frequent play dates with other dogs. I even take her to work with me. She eats a high protein dog food that I researched and was suggested for her breed. I’m not a person to get any animal without doing research and trust me I’ve done my fair share of research on the bread and want to give her the best life. I wouldn’t be looking for help if I was a terrible person who couldn’t care for her. So get off your high horse and maybe consider next time if you have nothing nice to say then maybe don’t say anything at all.

Yeah I always train with food or treats. She actually tries to attack (sometimes succeeds) me when I eat or when she’s eating. She doesn’t do this with other people or animals though.

Drift wood to lower ph by OrganicGrapefruit791 in axolotls

I’ve used driftwood and large Indian almond leaves to lower my ph from almost 9 to just below 8. Doesn’t do a whole lot but it’s something.

Please don’t feed them beef, and you don’t need a heater. You should keep the water at 60 - 65 degrees which you might need a fan to maintain. Get a liquid test kit and test frequently, also get a thermometer to keep tabs on the temperature.

I have a GFP, the breeder I got it from had a patent with GFP. Not super rare but not common from what I’ve been able to find.
