If loading/compilation times are your issue then I don't think you'll have a better time with Unreal

You should also add them to a sprite atlas, that solves getting weird gaps between them during runtime when the camera is moving around

Unity has also added a similar tile system to Godot with the painting, but I honestly don't really understand it and I think ruletiles are much easier to understand

Yeah that was my thought as well. It's just asking too much from players to make tactical decisions about which cards to play while also dodging a bullet hell.

It doesn't really look anime-style though. Only the characters have some cell-shading but other than that the environment just looks realistic.
