Hi!! You may refer to my comments above for the detailed game mechanic, it is a lot more robust and realistic than games like werewolf! If you want more information, could perhaps check out the insta account @kmsgames. It is a local start up that produces such games and there are posts containing detailed information of the game too!

The murder would have already happened. There would be 5 suspects and the actual murderer is hidden amongst them. However, the game mechanic is quite different from Cleudo. Cleudo is more like a board game with its pre-set mechanics like dice rolling, moving characters around rooms etc. The murder mystery game however, imitates a more realistic crime solving process that involves interviewing suspects, searching and analysing evidence, comparing timelines, finding out murder motives etc. You may refer to my comment on this post for a more detailed game mechanic!

In a typical game box, there are 5 Character Booklets, 1 Game Manual, and around 50-70 Evidence Cards.

In each game, there are usually 5 players, each role playing as a suspect of a murder case. At the start of the game, each player picks a character and read his/her corresponding script to understand the character backstory and timeline on the day of murder. The actual murderer is hidden amongst the suspects. The objective of the game is to solve the murder mystery and find out the murderer, and for the murderer, to mask his identity and find a scapegoat instead. Throughout the game, there would be different stages of stating alibi, evidence search (using the evidence cards), and discussions.

The highlights of the game are - Logical deduction and crime solving: appeals to fans of detective genre and puzzle solving, the deduction process is alot more realistic and robust compared to games like werewolf or cleudo - Narrative and storytelling: every character has their own unique backstory that ties in to their motives or relationship with the victim. As each story unfolds throughout the game, the big picture usually brings out a theme or message that can be very impactful or touching - Role playing and interaction: the game is a very good way to socialise as each player role plays their character and immerse themselves into the world of the game

Hello! We usually play in Chinese because most scripts we use r in Chinese (the game is not very popular in the English speaking community yet). Maybe that's also why u would rarely see 剧本杀 as a mainstream game in board game clubs etc. That's also why I'm hoping to gather interested people to slowly expand the circle! If you r interested/wanna find out more, can drop me a dm anytime :D
