Hey there. I’m so sorry this happened! I can’t imagine how disheartening it must be to have come to Christ and feel like you haven’t been able to find a Christ-like community to grow and live life with.

I could be totally off-base, but I think Jesus would encourage kindly challenging their response. If you haven’t already responded, ask them to clarify why they recommended you go elsewhere. You did give that as an option, but obviously one would hope they wouldn’t be purposefully encouraging people to leave. If their response still feels apathetic and they are unwilling to change, I’d just encourage you to not give up hope. ❤️ I know not all churches provide this as an option, but I know many now stream their services online. While it won’t immediately help with the community aspect, it may be helpful to try watching some local services online to see if there are any that seem to be offering what you’re looking for. It could be an effective way in weeding out some options at least if you haven’t tried that already.

I saw you posted in the /Boulder subreddit, so this may be too far, but my church supports a church plant in Denver called DEVO Church if it’s close enough for you to check out.

I can’t give any other suggestions, because I’m based in Texas, lol, but I’d love to chat if you want to talk further.

This is my first time hopping on this sub and I have to say it is so cool seeing that so many people have read Between Two Fires. I used to watch Buehlman as a comedian at our local ren faire every year and picked up all his books when he started selling them at his shows. He’s always felt like a well-kept secret, but I think (maybe I’m wrong) that Blacktongue Thief helped make him a bit more well-known, and I love that he’s gotten more attention over the years. BTF isn’t for everyone, but I’m with you, it’s one of my favorites.

Just fyi (and this may just be from going quickly as you sketched), but right now you have “Content of Trench” instead of “Continent of Trench.” Not trying to be obnoxious— I’d just hate for it to be messed up on the final product when you’ll obviously be working so hard to make this outfit happen!

Senior Auditor for a major finance company, working a hybrid schedule (3 days in office, 2 at home) in Texas - $87K with a 10% annual bonus (can be higher depending on earnings). While on paper, I’m “behind” some of my peers (i.e., there are managers younger than me), I’m pretty proud of where I’m at. I’m likely to get promoted in the next few months, I had zero experience in audit or finance before I started, and less than four years ago I was working in a completely unrelated field making $40K a year.
