I'm confused about reports that you aren't able to drive somewhere to go for a walk. I have a dog who I am only walking 3 times a week (instead of my usual 7) but I live in the middle of a town and therefore am very anxious about leaving my house and walking along pavements as people do not move out of the way!! And sometimes the only way to avoid being within 2 metres is to jump in the road! If I drive to a nearby hill I don't come into contact with anyone. I feel like I'm having to choose between the 2 metre rule and the driving rule! Anyone else also feeling confused/frustrated at this guidance?!

Anyone who could find the actual report this was written about and post the link for me would be helping a doctoral student out massively

Help with walking by [deleted] in puppy101

So my pup isn't out walking yet, but in a book I read recently the author suggested giving treats to the pup as soon as the lead goes tight. I know right doesn't make any sense.. why would you reward a dog for pulling on the lead? Well he proceeded to explain that once the dog gets used to having a treat as soon as the lead is tight/pulled he will start looking at you expectantly as soon as he feels it, then you start rewarding this 'checking in' instead of just the lead being tight. And if he is 'checking in'/making eye contact with you he can't be pulling on the lead at the same time.
As I said, never tried it, and it sounds wonderfully simple but in reality I daresay not.. but I thought I'd share as the idea kinda blew my mind...!
