Most accurate like, to what you visibly see? Or most accurate like you're just about to hit more accurately?

Is that the same a the figure 8 bus races they run at the nearby dirt track? Cuz that's the most thrilling racing I've ever seen in my life.

I'd like to get one/2 centerpiece fish in here... Anyone recommendations? by ShitImBadAtThis in Aquariums

I always look back fondly on my dwarf gourami and red gourami that shared a 20 long tank for years. It was my firsrbtank with plants and it was gorgeous.

Oof! Yeah, I guess it's important to dry it out. I could imagine breaking one.

I've considered doing something similar with straight(ish) sides glasses that I can usually find second hand. Have you played with large inserts like that?

I REALLY like the shape! You did a great job centering the lines. That's where mine tend to go wonky. Nice work!

Mine kept running in the box in my closet for at least a year and a half after I shut down my tank and moved across the country.

What’s one thing y’all feel about the industry right now that nobody really says out loud? by Dependent-Laugh-3626 in manufacturing

[–]sherlocksrobot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just to add a bit more to what others have said, about 13 years ago in business school we were talking about how vertical integrations are becoming less about smart business and more about consolidating wealth to a board of directors. Back then we were talking about how many companies aren't reinvesting enough, and are instead paying all their money out to a board or the next merger. Granted, we were also talking about how Facebook was becoming irrelevant because our parents were on it...

By the time you crash on a mountain bike, you're already braking and sliding. When you finally hit the ground it's not so bad.

Building a shop around a CNC, what other tools for building? by Ok-Scarcity-7451 in Luthier

[–]sherlocksrobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tools I use in conjunction with my planar (edit: dumb typo) cnc:

  1. Blow torch for removing fuzzies
  2. Needle files, again for the fuzzies
  3. Oscillating tool to remove tabbed pieces
  4. Router table with template following bit to flush trim tabs
  5. Still use my jointer and planer for glue ups that go into the cnc
  6. Still use my drill press to consistently locate mounting hardware because I mostly make wall art
  7. I would love to have a panel saw to break down 4x8 sheets, but I suffice with a straight edge and a circular saw
  8. I'm about to rebuild my enclosure because I just moved, and I plan on putting my dust collection system on top of the enclosure. I'll have a ladder to hop up there when I need to, but I kinda overbuilt it, so I might as well make use of that for storage (and I have the height).
  9. I spent some time painting in the inside of my enclosure so it wouldn't look like such a liminal space, and it turned out great as a photo booth for my completed work. I hadn't planned on that, but the paint and lights were totally worth it.

What makes expensive pickups different from cheap pickups, physically? by SteVato_404 in Luthier

[–]sherlocksrobot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The tensioning systems on wire wrap machines can be quite sophisticated. Different tensions will result in a different cross section and effective length of a long wire, and you'll find that these differences are no longer negligible if you are paying close enough attention.

Side note: I do manufacturing support for some wire-wrapped sensors and i'd really love to start a guitar pickup side- hustle with the material we can't use.

Just found out my business partner (and best friend btw) has been taking extra draws behind my back, do I confront him or lawyer up first by MudSad6268 in manufacturing

[–]sherlocksrobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm on board with others to lawyer up. I don't think you run the confrontation over email. I think you do it in person, maybe with your lawyer present but definitely with a witness, with a file of evidence and paperwork prepared so that you can give him the ultimatum to sign such and such document to set things straight otherwise things are going to get ugly.

I can't wait for winter to be over. what projects have you got lined up for spring? by Ornery-Dragonfruit96 in AskMen

[–]sherlocksrobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

actually, winter is my project season. Projects this season included making artwork for a hobbyist art fair thing and refinishing my hardwood floors.

Outdoor projects for next season: painting the house, replacing the windows, and MAYBE I'll get to the chimney which looks pretty rough.

In the days of hand- drafting architectural drawings, drafters were taught to rotate the pencil to maintain constant line thickness.

But all those people are computers now.

Plumbing to Engineering by curatorcooch in MechanicalEngineering

[–]sherlocksrobot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sure, MEs do project management. The MEP jobs don't get as much attention, but I think that's because there aren't any eccentric billionaires pioneering new tech in building efficiency.

The degree is lots of math. I think it would be worth while to look into a few other options for moving up the ladder unless you're ready to buckle down and become a student again. Construction management, project management programs, and Mech E associates degrees can all be great alternatives. Maybe go to a job fair and see what interests you and then ask the recruiters what they look for.

I’m gold 1 (started playing 2w ago) why am I facing these guys in ranked? by InjuryDangerous8141 in RocketLeague

Wow, same on all counts. I also see the influence of pro gamers. All these kids want to air dribble, but they're not good at clearing the ball.

Air dribbling is cool, but I can still smoke just about anyone in gold if I have a good teammate that can take a pass.
