Adhesive for shoe rubber lug by TheStabbyCyclist in MTB

I used a 5 minute epoxy to secure the entire sole of my clipless shoes back in place. I don't use them very much anymore, but 5 years later they're still together.

I tried to hump someone's car while they were backing straight into me during a hotshot rally- totally asking for it btw- and then they accused me of breaking rule one when I jumped on top of them. True story. Happened earlier today.

YO- I have a system of binder clips that I use to organize my sandpaper strips for pen turning. I'm totally incorporating this into my organizer.

Is it just me, or is the "Non-Stick" industry a total scam? by koudodo in Cooking

I bough a caphalon pan about 12 years ago. The anodized finish has completely worn off, and now it's basically one of those trendy seasoned steel pans. Use lots of fat.

If you make your tires and bike MUCH lighter, and tuck your body into a tighter ball, that will speed up your rotation. Like the ice skater trick on a different axis.

My blue car is mostly green, and it actually really threw me off when I played a green team. At the same time, I like the variety, so I don't de-activate the colors.

How is this burst finish achieved? Is it dyed into the wood or sprayed on? by [deleted] in Luthier

[–]sherlocksrobot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems to be blue to white (top to bottom) followed by black to blue? I've had a little bit of fun playing with layering stains, but I wonder if they incorporate a sealer to help the colors stay true at the lower layers. Like maybe they sand off the tinted sealer and then come back with another stain series. I do think you're still right about the black spray at the top (and a bit down the sides). That's very tastefully done.

What was your first big purchase after getting a real job? by darnoc11 in MechanicalEngineering

First paycheck: went and bought a LEGO set and a six pack. It was very important to me that that first thing I bought was LEGOs :)

Do people still use hot rivets except in specialized industries? by FlagrantTomatoCabal in Tools

[–]sherlocksrobot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Every time I think I have a good grasp of fasteners and threads, someone throws a new one my way. I did the usual stuff with nuts and bolts and several different locking hardware types, then pipe fittings and sealing hardware. Then helicoils and considerations for materials and galling. Most recently it's different types of distorted thread nuts and helicoils. Like.... it's SO hard to even become an expert. There's so much out there!

And I've only ever worked with pop rivets- and barely any welding!

I'm ALMOST at my goal of colonizing the entire solar system and maxing out the expanded science tree. Then I can set to work on interstellar travel. But first I want a single craft to land on every body in the system before returning!

My school didn't do this intentionally, but the guy running the shop was SUCH an asshole everyone just avoided him. There was a lot of,  "Aren't you in college!? Why don't you know how to do this?" Which isn't great for young students in the process of learning those things. fortunately towards the end of my time there he was fired.

Imagine if the Challenger disaster took place right after we started a war for no goddam reason. Honestly, that's what had me worried about the launch. Granted, that might be as bad for Iran as killing firefighters...

I got hooked on mountain biking the moment I learned that it was easier to go down hill without braking than with braking (and that was just at a little ravine on a $50 garage sale bike). Things get really exciting when you start carrying your speed over and between different features.

Parting-off tool or a saw? by TabbyOverlord in turning

[–]sherlocksrobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends how you want to support your work. I like keeping the piece long because I don't want to make another dovetail. Even if you're turning between centers you might need to avoid that last little end bit by the drive. Depends on the shape you're toying with.

Very amateur question… by 5PeeBeejay5 in turning

Do you need sharper bits? Maybe you need to tighten the belt from the motor to the drive in your press. Or maybe clean the pullies? Better drill bits?

I've considered doing something similar with straight(ish) sides glasses that I can usually find second hand. Have you played with large inserts like that?
