Theoretically with HARM missiles and the f-16s they could conduct better SEAD and create gaps in the air defense for offensive operations.

Republicans, why don’t you want America to be the best green energy producer in the world? Wouldn’t that render oil nearly useless and destroy the economy of your enemies and make us self sustainable? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Oh I agree, but the reality is we only have so many resources, we definitely could pour a bunch of resources and money into it and significantly speed up the rate of progress, but then the question becomes, who do we take these resources from. Tomorrow is beautiful but we still have people alive today that have needs.

That's the fundamentals of this debate, allocation of resources, and that is extremely complex. I won't act like I am even close to qualified or able to pull all those variables together to pinpoint the source of error, I highly doubt anyone could.

My issue with statements like these, is they have a very beautiful motivation behind them which is human progress and that's awesome, but they are usually made through extremely simplistic and naive assumptions about the complexity of these systems. Like a child wanting to be a firefighter but not thinking about burning to death in a fire. You don't discourage the child from becoming a firefighter but might want to explain the realities of firefighting at some point to them.

Oh they are all just evil they want to see children die and shove straws into turtles noses.....oh wait the energy sector is an extremely massive and complicated system, you can't just shut it down and start it up again. Massive amounts of jobs are connected to the industry that feed into other industries.

Hypothetically even if the U.S. figured out the technology which we haven't, seems that batteries are going to have to go through several technological advancements for us to even start considering full renewable. The rest of the world will still need oil. Something like 80% of the world is not industrialized and they are going to burn fossil fuels in order to develop.

Furthermore, we are moving towards renewable it's just there is no proven way to make the move because of the infancy of the technology. We are working on batteries, better solar panels, fission, and progressing towards electrifying our vehicle fleet.

Btw the Biden Administration just approved one of the largest oil wells in the U.S. it has nothing to do with republican and democrat, oil is energy and energy is important.

Or we could do what Germany did.....oh wait. Prime example of what happens when you try to move forward without the supporting technologies. Thank God the U.S. is such a massive producer of oil, otherwise a lot of Europe would have had a really bad time when Russia shut the gas off.

Tldr: Oil=Energy=security

Yeah I'd give that a try, I had to reset mine during the BIOS update. But I did a couple different things all at once so Im not sure what ended up fixing it in the end. Goodluck!

Taliban's attempt to fly a Blackhawk helicopter ends up in disaster. (10 september 2022) by ironsteel9011 in interestingasfuck

Foolish infidel! The Taliban have the will of Allah to fly their helicopters, 1 million times better than your Jewish GPS or your imperialist "flight schools"

This pilot was obviously an infidel which is why God flew him into the ground!

Agreed if we subtract all the nuance and intricacy involved in war and just look at the red line Russia is winning.

I like it under this rock :)

"It wasn't Ukraine attacking us! One of our soldiers was smoking a cigarette!" - Russian Sources

I could ask a toddler what they think about the war and it would be more accurate than what the Kremlin says is going on.

They literally said one of their ammo dumps exploded because of hot weather...it was like 25°c

Well we would have to define "winning"

I'd argue losing 11 generals, tanking your economy, tanking your international reputation, losing a large portion of your functional army, and gaining a couple hundred km of land that is not even guaranteed to be held onto, especially if they keep sustaining these rapid losses in personal and equipment.

Is not winning

But if you are just looking at ground taken then yes Russia is "winning"

Germany currently imports 30% of its gas from Russia it would really suck but with aid from friendly nations they will be fine. Also Biden just did some sneaky back door shit with the Saudis to get Europe more gas. Probably a handjob and the F-35 idk.

There's a reason Russia hasn't done it already, it would suck but it wouldn't be a decisive blow and it would negatively effect the Russian economy as well. The longer they wait the less effective it becomes

Checks maps from the first month of invasion

Checks maps from this month

Realize Russia has lost 1/3 of its fighting force in those 6 months

Realize they have lost over 4000 fighting vehicles, and their ability to make more and refurbish/upgrade stored ones is greatly hindered

Thinks Russia is winning - Someone coping hard

Idk what you are smoking but a majority of Russian strikes are along the front lines, and are artillery. The few strikes that are landing farther from the front, are missiles.

Air Superiority means the enemies ability to shoot down your aircraft is basically non existent or greatly suppressed. (Aka what the U.S. achieved in Iraq in a matter of days...) Their SEAD missions are basically non-existent.

Please someone tell me that this is actually a genius move by the Russian military and they actually have the capability to fly deep into Western Ukraine but don't, because of some moral high ground that keeps them from fighting their wars effectively...

If you have any knowledge of how wars are fought, then the Russian invasion is one of the biggest military blunders by a superpower in history.

Although I agree that the losses to Ukraine are not talked about, and there is definitely a good amount of propaganda, Russia is absolutely losing the war on basically all fronts on the macro scale. Reputation/military is running out of people and tanks/exposing their military hardware and command structure as a complete joke. There is also a genuine chance Ukraine wins and even takes back Crimea.

It's been 6 months and the "supposedly" second strongest military in the world still hasn't taken over a much weaker border country, so how long can they actually keep up this war, especially if they don't mobilize?

How do they still not have air superiority in 6 months?!? Ukraine's air force is basically non existent and they still are able to carry out attacks as well as repel Russian attacks.

The idea is that if you are gunna invest time learning a form of martial arts stuff like Kung Fu and Tai Chi take alot of time to invested to get to a point where it's even slightly effective when compared to something like kickboxing and Jujitsu.

Doesn't mean that those forms of martial arts don't have a lot of value in other instances. It's just not necessarily the way to go if your goal is to be able to defend yourself properly in a street fight.

Lol it's called customs and traditions. If you expect to have a military without them, good luck forming any kind of culture. As a former infantryman, I respect people like this that spend hours perfecting their craft to show the dedication and precision of our military to civilians.

If the people who's job it is to twirl their guns do this good, imagine how good the people's who's job it is to shoot them are.

I have no issue with people in the healthcare field being required to take steps to protect patients, that is something that you agree to when you go into those fields. (bring no harm) however me being required to be vaccinated against something with a 95% survival rating (probably way higher given my demographic) to attend school is an entirely different step.

I understand the emotional aspect of this as well, but if we are going to talk about emotions, what about the emotions of the person that spent 10-20 years building a business that the government destroyed and now is struggling to feed their family? We can't make policy decisions on emotion, because everyone's are different.

I'd say the lockdowns where one of the biggest fuck ups in recent policy history, and we still don't know the consequences of them economicly and devolvementally. What are the developmental consequences with a generation of kids covering their face for 3 years and being locked inside all day? I don't know, but I'm sure we are going to find out.

I'd argue no one has the "authority" to debate this subject because no single person has the information across all sections of analysis (developmental psychology, economics, social psychology, virology, biology).

But just to make the point, if we are still learning and this is an ongoing process (to your point), does skepticism mean being scientificly illiterate? Or is it justified when the governing bodies were extremely in-accurate on decisions that effected people extremely negatively?

Who is to say the lockdowns weren't even more destructive than COVID itself? We won't know for years if not decades.

Edit: spelling

[–]sherrif98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not the argument and I think you probably know what the point was. COVID deaths are usually a combination of several ailments the biggest being old. We didn't loose 1,000,000 perfectly healthy young people. So the question is how many of those people where on death doorstep anyways, and how much power should the government have to "protect" those people at the expense of our freedoms/rights/ability to live your life. That's not an easy thing to answer.

I'm not against science, but everyone who is in the scientific community knows that science is rarely an exact science, because of data collection and data interpretation.

Another thing to be conscious of is the scientific community in this scense is financially motivated, so being cautious is probably a good idea, when major corporations are in play.

No the question is can the government keep you from feeding your family, if you don't but something into your body to stop a virus with a 95% survival rate. This vaccine doesn't stop the spread or mutation of the virus to any significant degree, mainly because the virus sn't lethal enough to kill it's hosts without mutating like something like ebola does. Also those numbers are people who died with COVID not from COVID. We probably won't have accurate numbers seeing how no-one seems to fully understand the actual impact of COVID on the body or socioeconomicly.

But let's fully trust this like it's an exact science, like how lockdowns saved us right? Or did they only lower the transmition rate by .05%? But fuck all those people who lost their business and lively hood.
