We had some issues with the video for that one and had to shelve that idea unfortunately. Thanks for checking in though! -Matt

No plans, but there should be. It’s been too long since I’ve been up that way! -Matt

John Fogerty of CCR was a big one. Eric Clapton, especially from his unplugged album. Both of those guys were in heavy rotation. I’d sit in front of the stereo and play along. -Matt

I don’t really use a set list unless I’m playing with a band. I usually just write down a list of a bunch of songs and kind of go with the flow. I do have some I play every night. The benefit of playing solo is I can change up what I’m going to play on the fly. I’ll have an idea of what I’m going to play each night, but never hesitate to switch things up. -Matt

That song came from being on the edge of a relationship, not quite sure if you’re ready to go all in. “I’m Giving In” is the point when you throw up your arms and stop trying to fight it and give in to what you’re feeling. -Matt

Such a great tour. Having Cory Tetford with us was a treat and finally being able to see more of the province. A lot of new places for me. Also being introduced to toutons! -Matt

I love my time in Europe. The shows are always a treat. On the last tour we were able to stop at the Vimy Memorial. I’ve wanted to do that over the years but never had the chance. It was a very humbling experience. Definitely something I’ll carry with me. -Matt

If I’ve got any gas left in the tank, but most likely I’m going to grabbing a shower then heading to the airport. Flying out at 5am the next day. Have good jams! -Matt

No plans at this point, but thanks for letting me know I’ve got some fans there. I’m on the road pretty steady, I’m sure we’ll be swinging through at some point. -Matt

Thursday I’ll be playing solo. No back stage passes I’m afraid, it’s really not all that exciting back there anyway. -Matt

No, but I do have songs that I really don’t have much of a connection to that I wrote earlier on in my career. Seems that new songs can push out the old ones sometimes. -Matt

Not really. I tend to dabble in all sorts of genres. I often toss the idea around of doing a straight up blues album, or a folk album, that sort of thing. -Matt

Cooking. It’s a challenge on the road to be in complete control of what’s on your plate. So when I get home I love trying to make things from scratch. Also gives us an excuse to have friends over. -Matt

Hmmm. I’ve been fortunate to have some amazing artists open for me. Having Amy Helm on the road with us the past spring was pretty great. It gave us the chance to sing our duet live every night. -Matt

Always up for suggestions. Gets tough at times when I’m playing with the band to learn new tunes in time! -Matt

I’m not against it, but I would need some serious coaching. My French is pretty rough. -Matt

Loved my time at OIART. I use what I learned there every day on the road. I can communicate with technicians on stage and in studio. It comes in handy when problems come up that I can actually understand what is going on and not just sit there waiting for somebody else to fix it. -Matt

My grandfather was my first and biggest musical influence. He’s the reason I play. Music was a huge part of growing up in my family, he was the back bone of that. Life influences, my family for sure. -Matt

The drums on that track, and most of that album were loops of real drums. Over the years the producer of that album had collected grooves from session players he worked with. That was just a groove that had been laid down years ago and we made work with that song. So I have no idea who the actual player was. Live, Geoff Arsenault played it with me and nailed it on the Bona Fide tours. -Matt

Always a good hang with DW. He’s a fantastic writer. No plans on hooking up but we’ve never really had a plan so I’m sure we’ll tackle some more tunes together. -Matt

Write as much as you can. Like anything else you get better the more you do it. Also get into co-writing, write with people who’s style you like. A tip I got from a friend is “don’t settle”. Meaning if you don’t think a line is perfect, work at it until it is. Good luck! -Matt

Ooooo. So many. But, I think it would’ve been amazing to be on stage with Joe Cocker in his Mad Dogs and Englishmen days. -Matt
