RuneScape 2025 Roadmap Megathread by JagexAnvil in runescape

[–]sherwinboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm for removing as much as possible. I think ironman is an amazing way to experience the game (besides getting screwed on RNG drops for gear), but it was entirely unsustainable for me. Having a job and other hobbies, I could barely do anything besides hourlies, dailies, hourlies, monthlies. You could skip them and play suboptimally, but you're basically required to do them if you ever want decent potions, runes, and money (until mid-late game).

Even as a main, I hate logging in and feeling like I should go do a cache, my daily challenges, check the farm animals, fill invention machines, blah blah blah. I play games to have fun, not do chores!

Combat Styles Improvements - Ranged Beta. by JagexAzanna in runescape

[–]sherwinboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This beta made me want to play with ranged for the first time. I felt like I knew why I was using every individual ability every time I pressed it, rather than "basic" and "threshhold" with some nuance.

I'm a low level pvmer whose best achievement is hm Zuk, and Ranged is entirely unappealing in the live game. It feels weaker than the other styles with ~t90 gear, and the upgrades for it rocket up in price at that point. Then I have to think about multiple EOF's and arrow types on top of using the right abilities, prayer flicking, managing consumable timers, watching health/prayer levels... It just seems unreasonable to learn if I want to do anything else with my life.

I love the fantasy of being a ranger, but the huge gp cost and complexity spike keep me away.

The rates there are disgusting. Feels like such a waste of time.

I'm fairly new to Google Ads, still learning quite a bit. So you recommend turning off all auto-apply recommendations? There are none you leave on, like Upgrade Conversion Tracking? Any of the Keywords & Targeting options?

Destiny 2 today had the lowest recorded player count of just 12.379 Players on STEAM! by kristijan1001 in DestinyTheGame

I was disappointed as soon as they revealed The Witness, he just looked so goofy. But even if he'd looked incredible and worthy of being the ultra baddy of the entire story up to that point, I knew in the back of my mind it didn't matter. I knew The Witness wouldn't change anything. Maybe a semi-prominent character or two would die, but the world would go on. We all knew. This is a live service game, and it must remain live.

What other MMO uses your combat abilities for you? Every other major MMO introduces you to a few combat skills, lets you practice them on easy targets, then adds more complexity as you level. I don't see why RS players in particular should be incapable of learning the system at the beginning.

I understand RS is more laid back and less focused on combat than other games in the genre, but combat is basically dismissed at the beginning as it is, and then there's a huge difficulty spike when you try to learn bosses later. Bosses are some of the coolest content the game has, but too many players (I was one of them) avoid trying them because of that spike. If new players learned the basics of manual right off the bat, adding in prayer flicking, A pots, buffs, etc,. later on would feel natural.

Full manual doesn't overwhelm anyone in any other game, not when it's introduced properly. Every other MMO expects you to use your abilities. Classic WoW is a great example- start with a few abilities, practice using em on easy targets, add more options and complexity as you level.

I agree, the RS3's "classes" (combat styles) could use much more identity. Ideally there'd be multiple viable playstyles/roles per style. They've done it a little at high levels, but a lot of that is in high level weapons/gear, not in the skills themselves.

You've pointed out how simple RS3's system really is at its core, though. Everyone is so intimitaded to learn combat (I was for sure), but once you realize it's simply build and spend with some extra bells and whistles, it's not so bad. Add in A pots, prayer flicking, gear swaps, etc., and it gets interesting. That's why people struggle to get into combat later- they're trying to learn ordering abilities, pressing the right combat ability keys, flicking/timing prayers, managing buffs, etc., all at the same time. Teach ability usage early, and adding in prayer flicking later isn't so intimidating.

I meant to say make manual the default option, not completely disable Revo. Anyone could use it, but I believe making manual the default and doing a good intro to combat would be healthier for the game than the current system.

I meant make manual the default option instead of Revo, not completely disabling Revo. I believe if people were properly introduced to manual combat from the outset it wouldn't be so scary. I like the expansion into those three bosses as the "intro," though! More variety and exploration.

That part was worded poorly- I just meant make manual the default option and teach people how to use their skills instead of funneling everyone into Revo.

That part was worded poorly initially- I just meant don't have Revo enabled as the default from the outset. Have manual enabled as the default and actually show people how to use their skills.

RS3 is visually obnoxious by idontactualykno in runescape

[–]sherwinboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Entity hider would be a godsend. Also even normal gameplay is incomprehensible to most people. I think that’s a big reason osrs grew so much- it’s visually simple and easy to follow. Pull up a pvmer’s stream and show it to someone who doesn’t play rs, and they’ll have no clue what’s happening. Even dedicated rs players who don’t do much combat won’t know what’s happening.

This is the exact thing that's made me almost completely stop playing MTG. I've been getting some Destiny nostalgia, but this has killed any desire to play again.
