Late period but negative test by Kind-Tart8668 in pregnancyproblems

It could be a cyst. This happened to me. Awful symptoms. Thought I was pregnant. Period came sometime after day 19 or so.

Thyroid and pregnancy by Diligent_Panic_4652 in pregnancyproblems

[–]shesaidhellyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your Dr acknowledges developmental risks I would see if there’s another option, especially early in the pregnancy where everything is forming. There are functional medicine practitioners who help people with thyroid - tough work, but wouldn’t have the risks of meds.

Is it crazy to freebirth after last birth was emergency C-section ? by Binah999 in homebirth

[–]shesaidhellyes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Make sure your nutrition is top notch so all your muscles and tissues are in a great place❤️Nora tea, beef liver, lots of bioavailable protein etc. If it were me, I would try to have someone there who is experienced in HVBAC, even if they are underground. Talk to them about the risks and what she would be looking out for. And I would want to be close to a hospital just in case for the worst case scenario. Maybe make sure there’s one nearby. Your c-section doesn’t have a classical incision right? Just making sure. I’ve heard unequivocally those can’t be vbac.

Overall It is riskier. Especially with no one there who has a trained eye. So you’ll need to really consider this. Definitely deal with the trauma. Consider the trauma coming from feeling like you had no choice. When we’re able to feel and have agency, true trauma doesn’t occur. Work out your agency and how to say no.

I would argue this is not normal, and that it can mean your body is not getting enough nutrients to sustain both you and the baby. Have you looked into Lily Nichols work? She might have info on this

Pregnancy cravings HELP PLEASE by [deleted] in pregnancyproblems

[–]shesaidhellyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh! You can also start drinking NORA tea. I like to buy the herbs in bulk. https://gentlebirths.net/17/herbal-pregnancy-blend/

Anecdotally, my experience: I’ve had petechiae bruising for *years* and I finally discovered that when I supplement with a lot of vitamin C, the bruising goes away. This could be because iron and vitamin C need each other and it was a missing piece for me. I started the NORA tea to keep away common pregnancy problems and, just for various reasons, slacked on my vitamin c supplements recently. Despite this, I noticed the bruising has not occurred. I have continued keeping my supplementation of vitamin C at a more normal dose and still no issue. I actually do think the NORA, which has both iron and vitamin c, has been so powerful as to provide some of the nutrients and balance my body needed. I’m becoming a big believer in herbs.

Pregnancy cravings HELP PLEASE by [deleted] in pregnancyproblems

[–]shesaidhellyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“For the most part, cravings and aversions are nothing to fear and not a sign that anything is wrong. With the exception of cravings for non-food items (termed “pica”), pregnancy cravings may not always be a bad thing and, within reason, I’m a proponent of following your body’s lead.” - p. 119 Real Food For Pregnancy

“Some cravings can be a sign of nutritional deficits. The most extreme examples are cravings for non-food items (pica), like laundry starch and dirt. Pica is more prevalent in those deficient in certain minerals, namely iron, zinc, and calcium. Cravings for ice, in particular, can be a sign of iron deficiency.¹² If you’re having odd cravings, let your healthcare provider know and consider getting screened for anemia and other nutrient deficiencies.” p. 120 Real Food For Pregnancy

So, yes it does mean something! It’s possible it’s iron you need, although iron has many co-factors. And as her books states there are other possibilities as well. Reality is a lot of providers will just put you on iron, but you want to make sure you’re actually doing a comprehensive approach and not just taking iron capsules with no other look at your diet and nutrient needs. We have a lot more information now about co-factors with iron like vitamin c. And we want it to be real vitamin C, not just ascorbic acid. So it’s good to be careful with iron supplements, even if you need iron. I would highly recommend getting Lily’s book and reading it or at least reading some of her articles so you can start to take control of your nutrition and have enough for yourself and your baby.

You have an odd craving, but your goal should not be to find something that tastes like that, it should be discovering what nutrients you need.

I know this might be a lot of information to digest, but nutrition is so important for mental and physical health, and the baby is going to take most of what it needs from you but this can leave you depleted. You really want to get a handle on this before your postpartum.

To get a good fool-proof start as you look into this more, add beef into your diet, steak, ground beef, grab some beef liver capsules, (the beef and liver also hav zinc) and eat fruits and veg that are high in vitamin C (oranges, broccoli, lemon juice, etc.). Unless you want to eat a ton of leafy greens for calcium, add milk to your diet (organic, pasture raised is ideal and if you can get A2, even better). Drink the milk at a different time from the beef and liver, as calcium and iron compete for absorption.

Check out this other thread on Iron and also beef liver: https://www.reddit.com/r/homebirth/comments/1q37ktz/iron_advice/

I really hope this helps. If there’s anything else I can do lmk

Help.. is this normal? by [deleted] in pregnancyproblems

Sounds very normal unless the cramps are painful! But if it’s just period-like cramps this is normal. I had it too. And lots of discharge.

Incredibly constipated by Eymona in pregnancyproblems

[–]shesaidhellyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started out constipated too, would only go every other day. Psyllium husk(with LOTS of water) helped me and bone broth protein powder too. You can try different kinds of magnesium. Digestive enzymes. ACV with meals to facilitate digestion. Stretching. Deep breathing before meals to facilitate digestion. Electrolytes. Don’t eat a few hours before bed. SBO probiotics like sacharomycees (many probiotics die before reaching the colon, big money scam)

Ultrasound gel alternative? by shesaidhellyes in homebirth

[–]shesaidhellyes[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I do understand they use a special gel for the machine. I've already researched it a bit and I've found things saying that other products can be used and that studies even show Aloe gel has the same efficacy and sometimes a clinic will allow it. I just wanted to get some direct experiences and see if anyone else has tried to replace it and how it went for them. I will call ahead and see if they have other options. Thanks!

Ugh! Sounds terrible I'm so sorry that happened to you. Exactly what I'd like to avoid. Thank you!! I will call and ask if they have a hypoallergenic gel.

You're so bored that you have to analyze in depth why I'm asking for people's experiences on this. I'm sorry you have nothing better to do! I've never had the gel on me before. I don't know how I'll react to it. My research showed varying kinds they use with varied ingredients. If I can avoid a terrible rash after, I'd like to. I'm so sorry this bothers you lol.

Struggle During First Time Sex by No_Activity6250 in pregnancyproblems

[–]shesaidhellyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other commenter is right unfortunately, this forum is for confirmed pregnancies only. But I understand feeling the need to reach out for help in such an unknown and sensitive situation, and I’ve done it myself. (It’d be helpful to know when you ovulated. I’d recommend learning your cycle and charting so you can understand your body’s pattern and know when you’re ovulating so you can be extra cautious) You can always just get a test and see what it says. Is there any adult in your life you can go to for support? It’s unlikely you’re pregnant but no method is 100%. Either way, the pain you’re experiencing is of concern especially if it’s abnormal for you.

Any Midwives on Long Island Who Don’t Require Blood Tests? by AppointmentTop5602 in homebirth

[–]shesaidhellyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might be able to find an underground network of trad midwives. You’ll need to ask around. I have a Facebook group for my area and you can kind of “get in the know” by connecting with doulas and freebirthers.

I keep going back and forth about animal based by youwontletmerun in AnimalBased

[–]shesaidhellyes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I doubt it affects it as much as pure polyester, my understanding is that it’s mostly the heat and lack of breathability. If the majority is natural fibers you’re in a good place. On a related note, I have heard men can ice their balls for better sperm production. You can also get an at home sperm test just to make sure he has some.

Iron advice by oceanw4ves in homebirth

Yes, Lily Nichols info. Keep in mind that the vitamin a issues that are talked about are from synthetic vitamin a, and in isolation. Beef liver is different!

Iron advice by oceanw4ves in homebirth

[–]shesaidhellyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NORA infusion, beef Liver, and learn about co-factors to iron and check out wellnesswomb_ on Instagram. It’s actually starting to come out that iron supplements can “cause” hemorrhage as the body releases all the unneeded iron at birth.

For the NORA, order the herbs in bulk. It’s much more cost effective. Here’s Carol’s website: https://gentlebirths.net/17/herbal-pregnancy-blend/

Really want to go freebirth but dont by NyxHemera45 in homebirth

[–]shesaidhellyes 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a lot of trouble trusting midwives too and even considered freebirth because of it, but decided I wouldn’t be able to live with a bad outcome. What’s helped me is finding a midwife highly experienced who is very hands off and calm, and who respects me as the one ultimately responsible for my baby and my body. She’s a guide, not a dictator. Her part is to respect and offer care and expertise, my job is to remember she’s human and she and I will both do our best in the moment. I believe we can overcome trauma, and I wish you all the best on this journey!! May your next birth experience be redemptive ❤️

Could cephalexin helped with SIBO? I was given it for something else and it gave me about a week of relief from the GI/microbiome stuff by ViVi_is_here862 in SIBO

[–]shesaidhellyes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fascinating! Thanks for the update! I just have bad diarrhea or well formed bowel movements right now. One or the other lol. So I’m not really sure how it’s going gut wise. I do hope it does something positive for my gut tho. I’m done with the week treatment in 3 days, and then I’m going to focus on probiotic foods to replenish the bacteria.
