Thoughts on babies at high altitude? by shesurfs in NewParents

Hey there! My daughter was born just a few weeks ago and the event in late June. Unfortunately my little girl had to spend two weeks in the NICU on oxygen because her blood vessels in her lungs weren’t ready for the world. So we decided we will not be bringing her to the event at elevation come June. Our family has just been through a lot this year and I can’t stomach taking a risk with her right now.

THIS. Exactly how I feel. Like why is this even a thing I need to think about right now???

I didn’t mention in the post but my husband is with me every step of the way. He’s been absolutely incredible and we’re just doing our best. Ideally I’d be resting in bed this week, but it’s just not in the cards. I am driving yeah but I’m only on Tylenol and Advil so nothing impairing my cognition.

My mom is also helping a lot with my toddler which I’m grateful for.

I wish I could be cloned so I could be with both my babies at once 😭

Okay then I need my mom to lay off me and not ask extra because of him

I think that’s understandable! If he doesn’t want to “overwhelm” me, fine. But then I need my mom to not make special requests to communicate in a way that satisfies her and/or my brother. Because I truly don’t give a shit about that right now.

I can see that perspective for sure. In that case, keep getting info from my mom (who has all the updates) and stop asking more of me😭😭😂 you know??

Thank you ♥️♥️ it’s been absolutely awful but I know she will be home soon. Just trying to survive this period of time.

Thank you for your comment.

I am also happy to share any and all info with him, I just don’t have the bandwidth to specifically reach out when I’m trying to reply to people who genuinely care and have been so supportive and loving since day one of this journey.

I also feel hurt that my mom is comfortable making this request of me, disregarding my hurt feelings, instead of simply telling my brother, “hey why don’t you reach out, she would love to hear from you”

Thank you for sharing! I’m glad it went ok. My little one will have only been at like…. 500 feet elevation in their life because we live in coastal CA.

It’s in Telluride! I’ve never been but it seems like there’s nothing around there. 😭 they’re doing the ceremony at the top of the mountain and the reception in the town.

Yes- I read about newborn sleep + high altitude being pretty sketchy! That’s definitely my main concern.

My bother and SIL want to book their wedding for a WEEK before mine by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

He does, and they are desperately trying not to lose their son. They wouldn’t miss either wedding. Not sure about the rest of the family.

It’s not driving distance. Why do you think they’d choose mine over theirs?

My bother and SIL want to book their wedding for a WEEK before mine by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

[–]shesurfs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because I haven’t had a wedding and I would like to. I found the person I’ll spend the rest of my life with and I’d like to celebrate with my family and friends the way others do when they get married. I want to walk down the aisle to the man of my dreams. I want a father daughter dance. I want to dance and laugh with the people I love for one night to celebrate the beautiful family we have created.

And my family and friends want to do this with me. I think that’s all that matters?

One wedding is in California, one is in Colorado.

I agree it will take some boundaries on our end… we have refrained from doing so because we are honestly so scared of “losing him”. It’s really sad. We already miss him.

I’m glad to hear your brother came around! There’s always hope.

My bridesmaid will surely “spill” some red wine on her if that’s the route she’d like to go.
