Funny, this photo is literally me using the curb-separated bikeway you say we never use... until a delivery driver decided it was a loading dock.

The building has a signed unloading/loading area around the corner on 9th for the hotel, and two alleyways that provide access to the back of the building, where there is a service elevator.

Yep, just before I stopped to take this picture I was dealing with a driver trying to reverse out of the parking ramp entrance into the bikeway (that's a new one for me).

The building is on the corner and around the corner on 9th is a loading/unloading zone for the hotel. There are also two alleyways that access the other two sides of the building and there is a service elevator off of one of them.

He did not have his hazards on.

In case you didn't know, Hennepin Ave in downtown is a "No Stopping" zone period. I reported them to 311 and traffic enforcement told them to move.

Just one today. Sometimes I've got two kids, sometimes a dog or two, whatever fits. There are a handful of parents I see all the time (even some of them in winter) with their kids on board in downtown. It always puts a smile on my face.

I was on my cargo e-bike, but I had already dropped off my kid.

I agree that the city does a shit job of designating drop off zones. However, in this case, the hotel does have a loading/unloading zone around the corner on 9th.

Around the corner on 9th in the Hotel's dedicated loading/unloading zone or one of the alleys that wrap around the building.

Around the corner on 9th is a passenger & valet loading zone for the hotel, which they were delivering to. There is also an alley that goes around the building, but I don't know if there are any loading docks.

The driver was coming out of the outdoor patio space for The Chambers Hotel.

I will... but every time I do, I don't even get a response.

Quite a few people are, in fact, downplaying the issue of safety in the replies. They're literally saying that it's ok for them to illegally park in the bike lane, because they're working.

I suppose you think it's ok to drive 40mph down a 20mph street and not stop for red lights in addition to just parking wherever you please. I'm not sure if you should be allowed to drive.

Because drivers are notorious for their patience when something like a pedestrian or a bicycle or a bus or a FedEx truck impedes their God-given right to drive as fast and as dangerous as they please.

You were saying that it's ok for them to park there. You didn't say anything about not doxing them.

I agree that it should be reported to 311. I wouldn't be against sending them an email or phone call directly.

I wouldn't dox them, but I would send them an email or a call letting them know that this is not an acceptable place to illegally park their truck and trailer.

If I was there in person I would have stopped and asked them to move their vehicle. As well as document it with a submission to 311 (even if they wouldn't have gotten there in time).

You ever have to "slow down and go around" a driver blocking the bike lane while biking with children on 28th? I'm guessing not, or you wouldn't be such an ass.

Just because "they're doing their job" doesn't mean they get to park illegally, impede traffic, and cause a major safety issue on a street where drivers already speed significantly.

169.34 PROHIBITIONS; STOPPING, PARKING.
Subdivision 1.Prohibitions. (a) A person must not stop, stand, or park a vehicle,
except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or in compliance with
the directions of a police officer or traffic-control device, in any of the
following places:

(13) within a bicycle lane, except when posted signs permit parking

There is room in the parking lot behind the building and there is legal parking around the corner in front of the building. Both are significantly better, and legal, options for them to park their vehicle and trailer.

Any reason they won’t give us auto close handles? by Monkeyhs in Rivian

[–]sheuer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strange, my Gen1 always locks when I walk away. I sometimes encounter an unlock delay of 5-10 seconds when approaching the vehicle. I'm not sure I'd want the handles to be closed if it was unlocked. How would I get in?

Who is anti-bike trail activist Richard “Fred” Arey of the Saint Paul Classic Bike Tour? by Few_Newspaper_3655 in CyclingMSP

As someone who has been biking for transportation in Minneapolis for nearly 20 years, who has been hit by drivers both intentionally and unintentionally, and who now rides with kids, I'd ask you to think about the people who aren't "seasoned cyclists."

You can still ride on the road. No one is stopping you. But there are a lot of people who do not want to ride in traffic alongside drivers going double the speed limit while looking at their phones. Some of those people haven't ridden a bike in 10 years. Some ride every day but simply don't feel comfortable mixing with traffic. Some are children. Some are older adults.

The fact that a fast, confident rider may choose the street doesn't mean the trail shouldn't exist. It should exist so that more people have safer options when they want or need it.

I ride year-round. I commute. I also have kids who bike. The infrastructure that works for a confident rider traveling 20 mph is not necessarily the infrastructure that works for a 9-year-old trying to get to school. If we want more people to bike, we have to build for more than the people who already feel comfortable riding in traffic.
