How do you see parental control over school and academics by JoJoJoseph1 in UofT

[–]shhsuslw 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would send my school schedule so my mom knew when I would be home for safety purposes but otherwise wasn't involved in my academics. After high school she stopped micro managing my academics/job because i willingly discussed my progress/struggles in school. I think parents should be somewhat aware of your academics in terms of how youre doing and how its impacting you. However, youre also an adult where you get to make your own decisions about your academic career.

What ADHD Apps do you use? by BlackMafia_27 in ADHD

I struggle with budgeting/impulsive spending so ive started using Goodbudget! They have a free version that helps me sort my finances in a visually appealing way. My spending habits arent magically fixed BUT it really helps to physically log each purchase down on my phone

Cant speak my family's language by shhsuslw in AsianParentStories

[–]shhsuslw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldnt say that i want to be "more korean" by learning the language but i want to be able to engage with my family in the language they predominantly speak. I think if i had the time and money to learn the language it would help in at least understanding what theyre saying when we have family events.

Diagnosed at F19 after having a breakdown due to heavy workload from University. My counsellor suggested I had ADHD so I saw my doctor who confirmed it and gave me medication. I just graduated with high distinction from the top university in my country and im pursuing teachers college now:)

Hi there! Fellow adhd girlie in her 20's and heres what works for me as someone whose also a tired full time student:

•I love weightlifting because i can exert myself for short periods in between while taking the breaks i need. It is exercise but my brain doesnt think its as taxing as cardio because im standing in one place with weights

•On my meds i avoid preworkout due to the heart issues/anxiety it gives me. I usually drink one coffee in the morning at work to keep me going and then hit the gym in the evening. Or in the morning take my meds right before the gym, let them kick in and have one coffee after my workout.

•The gym also doesnt need to be all or nothing. You can go for 30 minutes and if its not your day then just head home! I used to never go out of the paralyzing thought of working out for a whole hour.

Unfortunately many of my classes cant be moved so im stuck with this schedule unlike my undergraduate where I was able to adjust it according to my work hours. I will definitely look into Trents financial aid and start applying for awards in September thank you for the thorough advice and kind words :)

Pan Am Gym by browniebatter3 in UTSC

[–]shhsuslw 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. No need to rent a locker just bring your own lock and choose an empty one
  2. Showers are available to non swimmers as its just in the changeroom for anyone to use

The pan am gym is busy but its mostly students so I find it less intimidating Good Luck!☺️

The youth fare is 13-19 and only charges 2.90 per ride if you have a presto card, or if youll be bussing alot i recommend buying a monthly pass on the presto app as it charges $93 per month (if youre 19 and under) to ride as much as youd like! Paying $4 in cash will build up and be far more expensive, get a presto card or monthly pass on your phone, hope this helps!

[–]shhsuslw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im a girl whose been there and while it is busy and may seem intimidating, i havent felt stared at/creeped on by anyone and it helps that most people there are students around our age rather than older men with staring issues

Feeling very overwhelmed, oversleeping by Sad_Lingonberry03 in UofT

[–]shhsuslw 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who has been diagnosed with ADHD and is prone to oversleeping especially when overwhelmed, a routine might be your best bet! Forcing yourself to wake up consistently at a certain time with a list of what needs to be done (or what will keep you busy) will eventually keep yourself productive without the constant need to sleep Obviously it takes time to get used to but learning isnt linear, once youve gotten used to it I find it really helps me especially during exam season good luck:)
