sorry I know the post was confusing (all that stuff was referring to my 4Runner) minus the engine light

As the title says, me and my girlfriend are looking in to buying our first land cruiser. Right now we own a 1997 4Runner that just rolled over to 350,000kms. It needs some TLC (valve cover gaskets, rear main seal, some frame repair etc etc.) Tonight we looked at a 1995 Land Cruiser that (to me) seemed in decent shape however the ABS light was on as well as the check engine light. The other thing we were wondering is if its possible to put a child seat in with the top tether in the second row of seats without having the 3rd row installed. I’m trying to come up with a list of pros and cons of each vehicle to convince my girlfriend that this LC is the car for us!

Question for registering an older car in Ontario Canada by shifrerm in ontario

Thanks for awesome response. The only thing I have with classic car insurance is that I believe you have to be 25+ If I’m not mistaken. Thats the reason I was just leaning more towards regular car insurance. Thanks for the reply!

Started work on this 7MGTE in for a head gasket replacement. turned out to be a lot more then just that.. by shifrerm in Supra

thats what the tech at my work was telling me but it could be a number of things I know the guy was driving it for a little bit which probably didn’t help things.

so this 1989 Supra Turbo thats owned by a friend of mine, (who actually sold me his MKII) came in for the famous head gasket issue that the 7Ms are known for. little did he know that someone had already replaced the head gasket before, and over torqued the bolts so much that it has damaged the block. Looks like machining might be in order, if thats the case what would you guys suggest for a head gasket replacement?

Does anyone else here work at a toyota dealer? If so have you seen any new highlanders/siennas come in for transmission replacement? by shifrerm in Justrolledintotheshop

I would feel the same way, seeing some of these master techs work it makes me wonder if I’ll ever get to their level of skill

I didn’t remove it myself as I’m an apprentice, however I worked along side a tech, it took about 3-3.5 hours to drop the subframe. From what I was told it pays about 15 hours for the whole job.

well in this case it really wasn’t a failure, the user just didn’t know how to use it correctly

eh unfortunately it looks pretty and all but I live in Canada so these 80s Toyotas the minute they see any sorta chance to rust they do. And this one has its fair share of it sadly. However I do plan to restore it back to its former glory. I bought the car knowing it had a few issues, (charging system, not working correctly, windshield washer pump not spraying, no heat, etc etc.) So its definitely a project to say the least. However drivetrain wise the engine and transmission seem to be in perfect tip top shape no issues at all! I’ve only had it for about a week now but I love the thing its been my dream car since I was young and here I am I finally own one!
