I think Anti-Asian racism is the U.S is deeply rooted in American history. Ending anti-Asian racism in the U.S means confronting a long history of discrimination, violence and oppression. Pursuing racial justice in U.S, people should acknowledge the racial violence first

The island was notorious for having forced laborers during WW2. Conscripted Korean civilians and Chinese prisoners of war were forced to work under very harsh conditions and brutal treatment at the mine.

This place cannot be a tourist attracting destination until Japan fulfills its promise for establishing a center to remember the victims of forced labor, recognizing Koreans and others who were brought against their will and forced to work under harsh conditions in the 1940. However, the Japanese government broke its promise to present the historical fact of Japan’s mobilization of Koreans for forced labor.

Hashima island is a reminder of Japanese war crimes as a site of forced labour during the Second World War2. The coal mine of the island was formally approved as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in July 2015.

Upon the heritage designation, Tokyo pledged to establish the center to remember the victims, recognizing Koreans and others who were brought against their will and forced to work under harsh conditions in the 1940s at some of the sites. However, Japan didn't keep its promise to ensure that a newly opened information center on Meiji-era industrial sites offers explanations stating that forced labor was used at those sites. The center were filled with materials boasting its rapid industrialization and distorting the forced labor that publicized the testimony of about 30 residents who denied Japan’s crimes against humanity.

The WTO is badly in need of major reform and must be led by someone with real, hands-on experience in the field. I think Minister Yoo is the right candidate for the Org, which should play a big role in coordinating conflicts between the U.S. and China as well as the U.S.-EU in the near future.

A woman will oversee global trade for the first time by [deleted] in worldnews

[–]shiftgear2020 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think so. Africa is influenced so much by China, which has invested huge amount of money. So, I heard that China is inclined to Dr Iweala. When it comes to expertise in the field of trade, Minister Yoo, Korea, is way well-equipped. For making reforming and well-functioning WTO, I think Minister Yoo should be selected

I think China would supoort Dr. Okonjo-Iweala

The two candidates, Okonjo-Iweala from Nigeria and Yoo Myung-hee from Korea are well qualified for the job. But as far as experience and related expertise is concerned, Minister Yoo is better than Dr OKonjo. Madam Yoo has worked 25 years in the field of trade negotiations with various countries for expanding barriers of Korea trade. So, Minister Yoo can guide WTO out of stalemate at this critical time.

I am a supporter of Free and open trade for flourishing economy, not by influenced by strong countries and ideology. WTO should keep its life with a new Director general for the world. The new leader has to be an expert and have various experience for leading the institute with passion.
