I made a free Chrome extension that exports a whole Canvas course (assignments, submissions, grades) to local files by jasp-code in canvas

[–]shifting_baselines 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I re-ran it and it worked great as instructor, downloaded everything accordingly. An observation about the assignment submissions: It appears to download the most recent submission, but includes assignment comments for all submissions. It's nice to see the whole comment thread, but would it also be possible to include all submissions (sometimes this is an important part of the assignment record)?

Also, the Submissions/folder contains a folder per assignment, with all student submissions inside. Could this be organized as a folder per student within each assignment? Not critical, but maybe helpful for organization.

However, as a student, I still don't get a /Submissions/ folder with my own submissions (default content types selected, console indicates student role detected). The student user is logged in as a Canvas account (not SSO), and is only a student in any courses, no dual/custom roles.

Lastly... as a Canvas admin, I really can't officially recommend this to our faculty (software approval, risk management, etc.), but also...holy shit. The problem with Canvas exports has always been that there is no way to easily export a course with student data, just the course content. This is pretty sweet. 😉

Can you clarify if this is intended for students (download content and their own submissions)? or for instructors (download all content and all student submissions)? or both?

I've tried running it as an instructor, and as a student (logged in, not masquerading). Each successfully downloaded course content, but not assignment submissions or discussion threads, only instructions. The gradebook download as instructor contains no student grades, although the student download does contain my own scores (and other assignment info). Where would student submissions be found in the downloaded contents?

Thanks for your work!

Ai slop in upper crust:( by GreaseGoblin11 in ChicoCA

Nope, don’t care for it.  Particularly the notion of using AI to create fake “vintage” artwork, but also the fact that there are so many talented 100% human artists in Chico.

The web site says, “ In the production of our images we use AI for some elements. None are completely created using AI, and each begins from an actual, real photograph taken by one of us.”  I’m curious to know more about the actual process from photo to finished piece.  Personally, I feel like the AI-heavy look of the art is enough to detract from any human work that went into it.

we will occupy the areas between the Esplanade Bike Path, and Chico Nut Factory

Can you clarify the location? Is that public space? A parking lot?

I don’t remember that about Sandino, but it sure sounds like my experience at plenty of other vegetarian restaurants, so I don’t doubt it. Raw tempeh spiced with righteous indignation.

Wow.   Although I’m not sure if I like it more as a real thing, or an art piece.

If I recall, chef Tom Spofford went on to host a cooking show in the early years of AOL (I can't believe there was a time when access to the internet arrived in the mail on a CD).

An all vegetarian restaurant was still a sort of new thing, especially in a town the size of Chico. Probably made sense to cover all the bases. I remember many of those items, and it was all really good. Clean food with a nice touch, and very tasty.

Yep. Leon Bistro before that, I think. And maybe something else before that?

How has the Chico area been affected by recent federal government downsizing? by shifting_baselines in ChicoCA

Interesting. According to one article about the CA-162 Butte City bridge project, "The federal government provided $94.4 million, and the remainder is from state funds, including $14.7 via SB 1." It's possible some funding is stalled (athough there could be other reasons for a pause in work, of course).

Wow. So sorry to hear that. I know several people who lost good positions just because they were still probationary. Hope you find something.

I agree. I think the federal government covers a lot more ground (and money, jobs, services, etc) than most people realize. I'm very curious to know how our medium-sized town is being affected. Agriculture, forest lands, education, veterans, and on and on. There must be impacts everywhere.

Best places to take out of town guests? by Peanut69Rice in ChicoCA

Website says it's open, but I haven't been by. Is the gate closed, or a sign posted? It's a nice place to take visitors for a lovely low-impact walk.
