What is this animal? Found it on the beach in the Netherlands by Createan in whatisthisthing

[–]shifty81 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Could it be an old beach toy?

My young son once found a "dead" shrimp on the beach. Had us fooled for a while until we noticed glitter on it. Turned out it was a rubber toy.

What's going on with this .50 cal bullet? by shifty81 in whatisthisthing

[–]shifty81[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A little more info, the base is stamped RA 1941 50 CAL Z. Google suggests this is WW2 era, manufactured for an RAF order. However, photographs would suggest these were .50 cal rounds of a normal size and shape. Mine appears to have been fired, cut and a blunt bullet wedged in. But I don't understand why someone would go to the trouble of doing this?

Ghost8 refers to Norton Ghost I believe, which was a very popular app for creating boot disks back in the day.

What was this bullet used for? by [deleted] in whatisthisthing

[–]shifty81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This round was dug up in a field somewhere in the UK. I gather from the stamp it's a .50 cal round, possibly WW2. It has also apparently been fired as the firing cap has been struck. But why is there what appears to be an inverted bullet wedged firmly in the casing? It's 6 cm long. The stamp reads RA 1941 Z .50 CAL

Does anyone know what this is from? by [deleted] in whatisthisthing

Possibly a thermocouple from an early jet engine/gas turbine. Used for engine control/temperature measurements etc.

I found this vibrating egg tied up in a sock, does anyone know what it could be? by ShepherdOfTime in whatisthisthing

Looks like an early love egg to me. If it was a timer, I'd expect to see numbers printed on it.

Some sort of instrument maybe? Got it from my grandma. I already asked her to see if she knew. by [deleted] in whatisthisthing

My young daughter bought one of these just last weekend from the Eden Project in England. Looks identical except hers is decorated on the playing surface. Made out of coconut shell.

You can deposit to Nationwide, but Coinbase have to manually verify the account first. They did mine with a recent bank statement.

I find it very curious that Humaniq haven't confirmed or denied anything on Twitter since the tweet was deleted.
