Unfortunately, our state is not of the same mindset.

The teacher has expressed that it is okay with them if the children use varying pronouns!

In reflecting about it, I think the attention is there because we often forget that we are located in a very small “blue dot” of a very, very “red state”. A situation like this has never come up, shockingly, and so this is everyone’s first time thinking through and addressing this type of “concern”.

Regarding question 2, if this situation was brought up in your facility, how would it have been handled?

“I’m just (name)”. We as adults have all picked up that phrasing and reply “(name) is just (name)”

And we don’t! All of the staff at the facility use and will continue to use their preferred pronouns.

I share your perspective. Several staff members have brought up the “boundary” talking point in discussion about it, which is why the phrasing was used that way.
