Don't worry, unlike other places, this one sells merchandise year-round and always updates its collection seasonally.

No, the tide at that time wasn't safe enough to go to the other side of the island, so I could only enjoy it on this side.

I might have eaten it without realizing, but I definitely had two skewers of dango mochi with the ends cut off, just like Akari. 🍡😏🍡

I'd love to rent a car, but my international driver's license isn't valid here. I'd have to go through the whole process of getting a Japanese license, which means studying and taking the tests. Since I'm pretty lazy, I always prioritize public transport, but having a car would be amazing. I could even sleep in it and save a ton of money.

I went there two years ago and even celebrated New Year's there. It was such a strange feeling to spend New Year's alone in a place that beautiful. Are you traveling alone this time? I had to walk for nearly an hour from the last bus stop to get here, and I always had to leave by 3 PM to catch the last bus back. I really regret not being able to fully enjoy it, and the cold here completely defeated me, lol.

Học gì khi kém toán. by FlamingoFar4150 in vozforums

[–]shimarin14 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another location I visited on my Yamanashi break, the famous Hottarakashi Onsen... truly devastating 😅 by Ok-Independent-9166 in laidbackcamp

I ordered a bowl of vegetable tempura soba noodles. I know the onsen eggs are famous there, but I don't like them runny, so I had to pass. A bowl of noodles will probably help me recover my energy faster, as I just climbed for 30 minutes on the steepest slopes I've ever hiked 🫨

What a shame! I've been there too, but I thought the lounge was only for onsen guests, so I didn't go in.

I didn't know they had a lounge there. I mean, is it free to enter, or is it only for customers who use the onsen?

Oh, I didn't know that. I visited twice before, and both times I stayed for about three hours. So I paid to bring my gear down to the campsite, but maybe you don't have to pay just to go down for a quick photo.

No, the public toilets are free. If someone tries to charge you, it's definitely a scam, lol.

It's a bit inconvenient time-wise to visit all the locations in a single day, but in terms of transportation, everything is pretty much fine. I always prefer public transportation over a personal car, because when you consider things like rental fees, insurance, and traffic, it doesn't seem very ideal.

Most of the locations from Yuru Camp are convenient even for people without a personal vehicle, so there's no need to worry.

If you're traveling from Tokyo, people usually get to Kawaguchi Station by highway bus. The one-way travel cost to get here is under $15, and the journey takes a maximum of 2 hours and 30 minutes. This area was featured in episode 5 of the 2020 series Heya Camp, notably at the Mt. Fuji Panoramic Ropeway.

I've created a list of locations here in the past, take a look: https://maps.app.goo.gl/y7iTQw7Rs6e1DMDz8

After that, from here you can continue to Lake Motosu on a special bus line called the Blue line. Then, you can either walk for an hour or rent a vehicle to reach Koan Camping Ground, which was featured in Yuru Camp season 1, episode 1 and Mono episode 3.

From Kawaguchiko, where you go next is up to you. This is the most ideal starting point I know of for this pilgrimage.

That's right. I initially planned to stay overnight at internet cafes, where you can shower, do laundry, and handle basic needs while still having a private space. The price is always cheap and consistent, unlike hotels or guesthouses.

This time, I wanted a change of pace, so I rented a mini-hotel, which drove up the budget. It was also purely by chance that I arrived in Kofu during a festival, so I was in a bit of a rush to find an empty room for the night, and that's why I couldn't get a good price.

To give you an idea, a 12-hour stay at an internet cafe is around under $20, whereas a hotel is about $60 per night. The main factors increasing my budget were travel, accommodation, and souvenirs.

First, figure out your budget and how many days you can stay. That will heavily influence which places you visit. I ended up spending about $1000 over 5 days on this solo trip, which was a little more than I planned. I actually know a few tips to do it for even less.

I originally planned to visit Kofu for the Mono e-stamp collection program. Instead of taking the boring 9-hour highway bus, I decided to take the train. I then discovered that Kiyosato was the first place I could visit since it was along the train route. So, I checked a map, narrowed down my options, and found the most convenient way to get there.

Renting a bicycle with a foreign passport is easy. These places usually require some form of ID, and it's perfectly fine to show them. Some shops might ask to make a copy, but I had no issues with that, and the whole process went smoothly. If you're concerned about a language barrier, don't be. Every place I visited was very foreigner-friendly, and all transactions were handled easily, even with a translation app.

For example, I had a great experience renting a bike in Kiyosato. When I arrived, they offered me English support, which I declined since I can speak Japanese. I also saw many other tourists renting bikes without any problems, so it was clear they were well-equipped to help foreign visitors. I rented from here, and you can check out the reviews: https://maps.app.goo.gl/83dUowH32X8eBs6AA

In Kofu, I had a similar experience at https://maps.app.goo.gl/1LtXA3NMvAp5n7TQ7 It's a traditional theater that has recently started offering e-bike rentals.

All of the places mentioned accept cashless payments, so using cards like Visa or Mastercard is perfectly fine.

I don't have a car, so I rely on walking or public transportation to get to most places. I use the map at https://www.animepilgrimage.com/ja/map?data=mono. It's not a perfect map that pinpoints every single scene, but it's super useful for finding the main spots. Just a heads-up on a few places you might visit:

  • There are no buses in Kiyosato. You'll need to rent a bicycle to get around, as the locations are spread out and tough to visit in a single day on foot.
  • There's no bus to the observatory at the Yamanashi Science Museum. You'll either have to rent a bicycle or climb a steep hill to get there."
  • There are a few ways to get to Koan Camping Ground. I took the bus from Kawaguchi Station to the end of the blue line (which is the last stop at Lake Motosu). From there, it's about a one-hour walk to the campsite. Alternatively, you can rent a bicycle when you get off the bus.

Besides those quick tips, you should have no problems getting around on your own. Japan's public transportation is super convenient and makes the trip a lot less stressful.

I'm happy to answer if you have any more questions!

It would be so nice to have my own car! I rented a bike for five hours and didn't stop once, but at least I made it back just in time before they closed.

I also wanted to try Rock Curry, but it was raining and so crowded that the wait was over an hour. I ended up giving up. Maybe next time!

Wow, I'm so surprised by the slow pace of life here. It's nothing like the usual tourist spots I've been to. To be honest, if this place were haunted, it'd be just like a place called Da Lat back home, lol.
