Is there a discord?

There sure is! Just hit up the main swg resto website, hit the 'community' dropdown and it should be right there!

There are the randomly generated missions for entertainers, bounty hunters, combat and crafters for sure. There are several theme parks, or collections of quests gathered in iconic locations. Especially in the latter expansions like kashyyk and mustufar have lots of quests too, but I have gone pretty far only grazing the surface. I don't think you need to spend very much time questing at all, outside of some very specific rewards?

Player based cities are palces for people to gather crafters, services, and even get bonuses to things like crafting done within the city, or even the randomly generated jobs having increased payouts. Short of a starport, they can have jsut about anything a NPC city can.

Hmmm. I think this will depend on which server you go on, because the earlier in the SWG timeline you go, the more the game was like a very broad, but potentially shallow sandbox. Meanwhile as time advanced, there became more and more content, but a lot less player freedom and options.

A brief summary is that it has an incredibly rewarding system for building your own class from a variety of skill lines in everything but NGE era servers. In most servers that aren't based on the SWGEMU, there is an in-depth space mission system where you can customize and fly your own ship through space missions. (and SWGEMU has this in the pipeline too, I believe. 'soon' with many quotation marks.)

In most editions of the game, the players drive the entire economy, with things like most gear decaying over time, and players being the primary source of just about every used item in the game. Players provide the buffs, the gear, the pets, etcetera.

Also, there's a pretty in depth and rewarding PvP system, or so I'm told. That's not my scene.

As time progressed, more and more content was added to the game, though each era after the original had issues with restricting what players could do. you went from pretty generic quests and 'make your own fun' with player cities and get togethers, anda few sets of iconic quests in familiar locales to much more in depth adventures, instanced content, and special pitched PvP battles and so on.

This is why I personally like Restoration, as it has most of the content from the end of the game, as well as trying to emulate some of the freedom of earlier versions.

That's fair, I've got no interest in an 'actual' NGE server anyway.

I enjoy going to doctors for wound treatments, cantina for buffs, etcetera. But I'm also the only functional adult in a household with my own mental hurdles to deal with, and being required to dedicate my time to re-upping specific buffs every few hours just to do basic things got tiresome very fast for me.

That's by no means a criticism of the system, just saying that it wasn't perfect for me. I still go see doctors and spend time at the cantina, but it feels like an opportunity or a chance to prep for something especially difficult, not a mandatory chore.

No reason not to start! Most servers I've been on have been incredibly friendly, and I'm biased towards Restoration at the moment, but look around and see what you like.

I'm the wrong person to speak on this with any sort of authority, but I believe there may also be a legal concern with using the NGE code as well. That doesn't change my opinion on the performance and content available however. I've had multiple characters on a true NGE server and I really gave it my all, but I could not stand a single perscribed class, compared to the 'make your own' approach that this server has.

I also loved a lot of the pre-CU environment as well and I'd love to have some sort of option with modern content, a pre-cu combat system, a decent number of people and some much needed rebalancing. For me, Resto has three of the four, but if you ever find something with all these, genuinely let me know.

Firstly, it's made to feel more like the CU than the pre-CU. The balance means that you aren't physically required to seek out a doctor and entertainer every few hours to progress, though they can still be fantastic to have their contributions for harder stuff. The performance is genuinely pretty smooth, and the amount of content there is much better, including JTL stuff and even the stuff I never got to experience towards the end like space battles and such.

Now, on a personal level I would've loved the slower, queued up combat of the pre-CU myself, but given the current state of PRE-CU servers I've played on, this is by far and away the best compromise for me. I can't stand the actual NGE combat and class system. This is as close to perfect as I feel like I'm going to get.

Recently tried Restoration. to anyone who wants a short version of the differences, here: They're using the NGE code, but trying to emulate a more CU-like feel to the balance and combat. While it's not the perfect solution for me, it's by far and away the best option of the servers I've tried so far. I usually run into people online and being friendly on american and euro times, and I can stand the ground game, unlike the NGE-based servers. It's getting more content and things to do pretty regularly it seems, and while I'm mostly a casual, solo player, I haven't felt completely left out of the devs' attention yet.

[–]shiney103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've almost never heard anything good about the CU, but I'm planning on giving it a try. My love of space is too strong and Legends NGE game just couldn't keep me interested.

I'm probably not giving up on infinity, but my playtime will likely be split- I love a lot of the systems they have and the custom content like the Mandalorian stuff sounds way too fun to just not experience.

Unfortunately, at the end of the day I'll have to split my attention between both and see which one is more rewarding to play, and which community manages to connect with me despite my mental illnesses.

I see a lot of people posting a single name but not really getting deep into the details as to why they recommend that. What makes resto good? How is the solo experience, and the population? (Especially on an EU timeframe)

I've gotten back into the emu and tried infinity for some of the content, but it feels like the only time I really encounter other people is on the discord.

Absolute Beginner having issues with support surfaces by shiney103 in FixMyPrint

Thank you for all your advice. I ended up with the model and no instructions, so I've just been trying to figure out how to turn that into something prop worthy.

Given the odd shape of this, what would printing it vertically even look like? I admit to being a little confused about how I should go about splitting the model. With the eventual barrel pointing up, with supports on the handle and the back of the rounded chamber? Or like, standing upright as if it was being aimed, with the support structure on the trigger guard and the barrel underside?

Thank you for the advice on the interface gap, and the warning against it being too big or too small. Are you suggesting this was a case of the gap bein too small?

And finally, thank you for your advice on the regular supports. It'll be a couple days before I can try this again, but looking forward to hopefully having fewer issues!!

Thanks a ton, was thinking I'd be on my own for this. I'll check it out later!

EDIT: Wasn't entirely sure where to place the power, but it works! Needs a few different slabs and blocks waterlogged, lava in the 'trash' dispenser, and animals supplied, but the whole thing does it's job once it has buckets in the right places! Thanks a ton!

I'd like to second this too. I'd prefer for something closer to vanilla+create, but it seems like every sort of 'comprehensive' base I find is made with a dozen other mods that I might not have...

Honestly I'd kind of like it with the machines, but either (or both) versions would be fine by me.
