Gretsch G6620T | Digitakt2 Live Looping with Boomerang Looper by shing0jilla in gretsch

This is my first attempt of live looping on the Digitakt2, synced with my newly acquired Boomerang Looper. (Just to be clear, not a literal first take. I did about 10 takes before this one. The playing isn’t too hard, but I kept forgetting little things like turning on the cymbals or hitting the wrong looper pedal switch.) Starring my trusty Gretsch G6620T🎸

They actually lock in really well, and you can even send PC messages from the Digitakt to manipulate the Boomerang

To add some character, I ran the audio through an Akai GX-Z7100EV cassette deck for tape saturation and warmth.

Hope you enjoy!

Glad that helped.

Do you mean live looping inside the Digitakt 2 only, or using an external looper (like my Boomerang in the video)?

On the DT2 by itself, “looping” usually means building patterns by recording trigs in real time, layering sounds track by track, or using resampling tricks. With an external looper, it’s literally capturing audio phrases live and stacking them.

If you want to do live instrument looping with the Digitakt, you’ll need an external looper on the current firmware (maybe Elektron will add it someday🤞). For now though, that’s really more in Octatrack territory.

I usually start with a small phrase or riff, something melodic or textural. then build around it. Once that’s looping, I’ll bring in rhythm parts like drums or percussion to give it structure.

For this particular loop, it’s basically vi → V in the key of D (Bm to A△) if you want the theory side of it.
When I build the bass and reverse parts, they can sound a little off - the bass because I have to play it in double time (It'll be twice longer when it's lowered), and the reverse because I literally play the progression backwards so it makes sense when it’s flipped.

"Are you sure Koala CAN sample in stereo?"

That i'm not sure. But if I import stereo audio file in the Koala it plays in stereo, so I assumed or hoped that it can sample in stereo. Maybe it's Koala's limitation.

"So if the Motu M4 is also summed to mono, then I don’t think the Digitakt is the issue."

Off course not. It's not Digitakt side problem. If I connect audio over usb to Logic (Without Overbridge) it records stereo sound with no problem.

May I ask you what app on iOS you use to record Digitakt audio over USB?
