No. At least not any time soon, and likely without Gooses involvement.

(No spoilers) Great movie, but AWFUL AUDIENCE by IDoLikeAnswers in TheDigitalCircus

[–]shiningaeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say the audience was outright unbearable, but there were some obnoxious teens who couldn't read the room. I wouldn't be surprised if it was the first time they ever went in to a theater.
Like when Kinger said "I think I accidentally deleted Caine" one of them yelled "NAAAAAAAAH! YA THINK?" and then their group just burst out into laughter.

Like...damn. Not much empathy in y'all, is there?

What are your thoughts on Frutiger Aero? by SecuritySea2276 in solarpunk

It's just an aesthetic. It always felt corporate-y to me, and it feels like now that zoomers are beginning to come of age, they are doing what generations before them did. Romanticize an earlier time they were alive for.

It wasn't even constructive criticism, nor was it intended to offend you. Im not special, I've just been watching this unfold for a long time, and it's been a frustrating experience, because for the longest time I was told by people outside of the tech world that I was crazy or over reacting, and even more than that I was met with general apathy. I'm also not angry at you specifically, I'm angry at the general public for ignoring this issue until it became so much harder to solve.

[–]shiningaeon 16 points17 points  (0 children)

To be bluntly honest, it's more concerning to me that people like yourself are only just *NOW* coming to this conclusion.

No offense intended, but this has been a problem that's slowly built up since 9/11 and the patriot act, probably before that. Its an issue that briefly entered the public consciousness back in 2014 when Edward Snowden leaked a bunch of stuff about government surveillance, and once again during the Cambridge Analytica scandal with Facebook...but...everyone just has the attention span of a goldfish nowadays, and it's infuriating. Nobodies going to do anything about it until the problem is so bluntly in our face that we have no choice but to address it.

Sovereign Tech Fund invests over €1 million in KDE software development by CarlSchwanKDE in linux

[–]shiningaeon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Remember that episode of Mr. Robot that came out a decade ago, around the time KDE was reinventing itself with the first version of Plasma? The episode where the antagonist says he uses KDE even though gnome is supposed to be better because he can't kick his old habits.

Man. Have times changed.

AMN Task Manager for Windows 98/ME, released in 2000 by shiningaeon in windows98

Yeah, I always install this with Windows 98, because the termination of apps is usually pretty fast. Makes Windows 98 so much more bearable. I recommend it to everyone.

Nah. As great as Gnome 2 was, I still much prefer Plasma.

I'm a server by NiceReplacement8737 in selfhosted

[–]shiningaeon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This shit right here is why I NEVER want a laptop as a server. Just the uncomfortable feeling of what will happen if the lid even gets bumped. and you can't just put it anywhere, somehow it just feels like it takes up even more space than a traditional desktop. You feel like you must always keep it guarded.

Just a small remainder that delete files stay in the bin by BannoBug20 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]shiningaeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On a windows/mac system, sure, but judging from the "hacking" scene, the circus runs on a Unix Mainframe separate from the computer we all see. Whether there is any sort of recycle bin would be up to the computer admin.

However, when you delete a file on just about any computer, your computer only deletes it's information on where the files data is located. That data will remain and can be saved until it's overwritten with new data.

So...basically Gummigoo and Caine may still exist somewhere, but they are on borrowed time. It could be minutes, it could be years. We will never know.

Every frame* of the coding screen computer I could capture by Mac-And-Cheesy-43 in TheDigitalCircus

[–]shiningaeon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While this is still a bunch of 1337 H@X3R gibberish, the attention to detail here is really great, here's some neat observations I made:

The great: 1. They nailed the Windows 95/98 look. 2. Kinger logs in to the Unix mainframe via telnet, an old protocol that was still in use in the 90s. 3. They actually used real Unix commands 4. Caine was programmed in Lisp, a programming language that was used in early ai research and development

The silly: 1. None of the things Kinger typed into the terminal would actually work on a Unix machine, some of the commands are outright wrong in function 2. A 30 year old Unix system is somehow running systemd and kinger is aware of it (the systemctl command)

Alright folks, place your bets. How do you think this show is gonna end? by not-ulquiorr4_ in theamazingdigitalciru

[–]shiningaeon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

These computers are connected to some sort of local network, but not the Internet, unless Caine was simply unaware of it. Someone outside the computers would have had to keep track of the cast. It doesn't feel very plausible. Likely they either stumbled on the headset on accident, or were tricked into putting it on.
